.@andrea_earl of @AARPTX presents on #SB1629, nursing home reform. Texas nursing home quality low despite billions to industry. Bill improves transparency, quality, and ensures funds go to the direct care of nursing home residents. #txlege
#HB4126, which AARP opposes, would effectively legalize in Texas a predatory practice that is under scrutiny across the country. It has the potential to ensnare Texans in punitive contracts of up to 15 years.

Comparison shopping for auto and residential property insurance has been become more time consuming since Texas stopped promulgating standard policies. Which is why @AARPTX supports HB 1900 by Rep. Smithee to extend notices of nonrenewal from 30 to 60 days. #txlege
Just wrapped up testimony before the Senate Business and Commerce Committee in opposition to #SB149. Among other things, the bill would open the floodgates to abusive lending in Texas. #txlege
Bills are proposed in the #txlege that would undo vital protections for payday and auto-title lending borrowers. @AARPTX will testify this week in opposition to #HB2127 and #SB149.

Stark contrast at the Texas Capitol today. Couldn't be sunnier outside, yet inside scores of Texans are urging senators to better fund health and human services across the state. See @AARPTX budget priorities here https://t.co/t4Fe2Aj8hr #txlege
Other states require assisted living facilities to have emergency backup power. Why doesn't Texas? Kudos to @RepEdThompson for fighting for older Texans. Grumet: Texans in assisted living at risk when the power goes out #txlege https://t.co/kl7zXsD8cb via @statesman
Power outages threaten the lives of thousands of Texans who depend upon electricity to power life-sustaining devices. It's time to increase access to emergency backup power. This should be a top priority for the Texas Legislature this year. #txlege
Backup power is not in place for thousands of medically vulnerable Texans. Action is needed by the Texas Legislature this year. #HB795 is one of the measures that can help.

There are thousands of Texans across the state dependent upon an electric-powered medical device to sustain life. What happens when the power goes out? Let's find a way to get emergency backup power to more Texans. #txlege
Backup power is not in place for thousands of medically vulnerable Texans and residents of many long-term care facilities. This legislative session, AARP Texas wants action to help these vulnerable Texans. #txlege
February 1 is Conservatorship and Guardianship Abuse Awareness Day. Check out the important work @texascourts and the Office of Court Administration is doing to improve the guardianship system in Texas. https://t.co/kiewzrCqQg #txlege
Good news. @txcomptroller announcing $363 million in federal grants heading to Texas to increase access to affordable high-speed internet. Some details here. #txlege https://t.co/Ex0aDRFPk2
In return for high prices paid to generators, consumers were promised generators would take on the risk of making new investment and keep the grid reliable. That hasn't happened. Generators have made profits and are lobbying to be paid even more. Let's not be fooled again.
Gosh, it's painful to listen to Texas utility regulators anguish over what it'll take to make the electric grid reliable. Spoiler alert, what they are coalescing around is complicated, untested and costly for consumers. #txlege Live here - https://t.co/QofMOusETP
This feels like a shake down by electric generators in Texas. For two decades, cheap to generate electricity has been paid handsomely in ERCOT's wholesale market, which uses marginal pricing. The result has been higher prices for consumers, no matter which retailer they choose.
