Parks are totally essential for our wellbeing and the planet. Try telling that to Wimbledon tennis (AELTC) who plan to decimate and deny public access to Wimbledon Park - partially in Wandsworth borough. Shocking decision by @MayorofLondon Green not greed. @SaveWimbldnPark
Happy #LoveParks Week to the 30+ parks, commons and open spaces across Wandsworth 🌳
Parks are essential for our wellbeing, our communities and our planet.
We’re proud to care for these green spaces for everyone to enjoy 🌺

If nature is vital infrastructure and we need to plant more trees, why does mayor @SadiqKhan back the decimation of Wimbledon Park and the loss of 500+ mature trees on metropolitan open land? It’s the Wimbledon Tennis money that talks - shocking decision. @SaveWimbldnPark
🌳 Trees, trees, trees!
⏱️ Just had 2 minutes in the debate on nation preparedness for emergencies because so many MPs also wanted to speak.
💦 🔥 Here’s my speech about the @EnvironmentAPPG enquiry into resilience to extreme weather events.

@MarkJohnsonTw@SaveWimbldnPark@PutneyNews Loss of 500 trees and irreversible damage to ecosystem. AELTC will be able to deny public access. Transport system will buckle. 8 years of constant construction traffic. Barely any public access to 38!!! tennis courts. Dangerous precedent for decimation of any green space.
There is a cure. Let big business - say Wimbledon Tennis - buy protected metropolitan open land - say, Wimbledon Park. Promise not to develop it, then develop it and close it to public access. No public parks, no harassment. Problem solved. @MayorofLondon happy
🛑 Street harassment has no place in our parks.
That’s why we are already training staff to step in safely when they witness it. Read more about what we’re doing:

…to approving the disgraceful plans by AELTC to decimate metropolitan open land - Wimbledon Park - for the greed of Wimbledon tennis. And charging EV owners who invested in electric but will now be forced to pay congestion charge. Sadiq is a disgrace. Get him out!
Fantastic to see our Mayor @SadiqKhan standing up for London. Of course there is more to do, but we should be so proud of everything we’ve achieved in our capital - from bearing down on crime, to cleaning up our air, to improving our transport infrastructure.
Tooting Bec and Tooting Graveney Commons are the largest green space in our borough and we're planning for their future 🌿
We’re developing a new 10-year plan to protect, improve and adapt the Commons. Tell us what matters to you.
Closes 3 August: https://t.co/O5ineZkUGm
… (apart from Wimbledon Park, under threat of decimation by AELTC Wimbledon tennis, which could be a building site for 8 years and very unwelcoming if public access is denied for much of the year) @SaveWimbldnPark#greennotgreed
It’s #LoveParks Week! A time to celebrate everything we love about our green spaces 💚
Wandsworth has 12 #GreenFlag Awards this year (our highest number yet!) 🌿 We’re creating cleaner, greener and more welcoming spaces for everyone to enjoy.

That’s over 20,000 local residents who are against building on metropolitan open space which will have 8-10 years of turmoil and construction pollution. Only 7 of 38 courts for schools use. And how do you think AELTC will use the new show court 50 weeks of the year?
You might get more green space, but there won’t be any beautiful mature trees on it. And access to parts of it only at AELTC’s discretion. Total chaos at Southfields tube which can’t handle demand now let alone when new show court is built. Awful precedent to build on green space
