@DabsAndDPS I struggle to not wish to do some things over, but given I can’t, it’s just pain. I’d rather live and be me than dwell too much on a saddening wish.
If you’re someone who overthinks, you’ll struggle to go no contact & heal the most bc you don’t just remember, you relive & philosophise your pain. Grief for the emotionally intelligent is layered.
@ButtCheeksMoses @JustRickard @JacksonWheat1 Dude brought up kinds without even trying to define it, then said the fact that cats don’t give birth to dogs defies the core mechanism of evolution.
I recommend listening to people who give factually correct information and explain themselves clearly:

@TheOldFaith@DrScotMSullivan I agree that we should scrutinize our biases when we evaluate. It is wise to proportion our confidence to the evidence and doubt what lacks reasonable evidence.
Sagan wrote what I find to be helpful & insightful ways to scrutinize our own truth seeking:

@TheOldFaith@DrScotMSullivan I commend truth seeking.
Here’s my hang up; humans have a tendency to believe a lot of stuff for bad reasons, and the gospels are based on human hearsay.
Even modern humans can believe easily fact checked falsehoods, and we know false religions are the rule, not the exception.
@TheOldFaith@DrScotMSullivan Surely a god can see the difference between rejection and disbelief.
Rejecting an offer implies the choice is made between accepting it and rejecting it.
If I don’t have reason to think the offer or its consequences are real, how am I supposed to even consider accepting it?
@TheOldFaith@DrScotMSullivan That’s one story to try to make sense of hell. You seem to be proposing hell is filled with people that won’t accept an offer to get out of infinite torture.
What about people like me who aren’t rejecting the offer but simply don’t think the offer is real?
@Joeshread5631 @Canaansdad1987 You sound really mad about dying kids for someone upset that others are drawing attention to the leading causes of dead kids.
@thejerryproctor@paulogia0 Agreed. Just wanted to beat back any allegations that atheists are borrowing some philosophy or have no alternative sensible basis for values that are somehow inherent to Christianity.
By your explanation, such values are just part of a process that goes far before Christianity.
@dan_herbison @paulogia0@noah_jo99 Didn’t mention standards, I’m correcting your claim that empathy doesn’t spread your genes.
Empathy is demonstrably an amazing teamwork motivator for our species. Ape. Together. Strong.
The net survival of the group is benefited from empathy. Fringe cases don’t change that.
