More Disco
Less Fascism
DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, at the Carnival Against Fascism in Brighton city centre yesterday.
The Carnival brought an estimated 4000 people to the streets to oppose a planned hate march by a right-wing group calling themselves 'Patriots'.
On today in Brighton
Brighton is never, ever, going to allow fascists to march in the city. It was a carnival and a party of anti-fascists. Parents and their kids, young people — Fatboy Slim even appeared and did a DJ set. Every single avenue and street was blocked.
The police, for some reason, decided to carve, using force, a 100m little walk in either direction of the station, before they ultimately sent the fascists home.
Questions need to be asked to why it was deemed necessary to use violence to carve a tiny walk for maximum 100 fascists against crowds of thousands.
They should have been held at the station and then sent home.
Police decisions risked crushes and stampedes.
@NoJusticeMTG Peter Kyle has a big majority and has been a weirdly popular local Mp. He works hard for his constituency and most voters don't look at Labour internal politics. But I think this is optomistic. He is at serious risk from the Greens. With Burnham as PM he wins with Starmer he looses
@AaronBastani The Police are objectively bad at their job and underprepared. But when it comes to policing the far right much of the problem stems from widespread alignment with the far right amongst serving police officers. If you go on an antifacist demo you will experience this first hand.
It's out of control, and there's no political leadership. Why isn't the Prime Minister speaking out against the twisted logic that blames people, entirely unconnected with the crime, solely based on the colour of their skin?
Crime is now being viewed through an entirely racialised lens – but only when the perpetrators aren't white.
When Chas Corrigan stabbed a Saudi student to death, or Paul Doyle mowed down Liverpool fans, white people didn't have to fear being a target of collective retaliation.
@JessicaLBarnard The left have never had the Labour Party. It had the leadership under Corbyn it didn't have the party then and was destroyed because of it. The Labour party will never be vehicle for the left, that should be obvious after the collapse.of Corbynism.
The are good arguements for and against The Greens standing and campaigning in Makerfield. The bottom line though is that it is a decision for the local party and they have decided to stand. Greens now need to stop discussing the pros and cons of this and support this decision.
Surprised how much heat this is getting.
For accuracy, the Greens are demonstrably already the party of the young working class, the inner city working class, the minority ethnic working class, the LGBTQ working class and the graduate working class. We’ll come for the rest too.
@SimonPeterGreen@TheGreenParty You are not in the least bit sincere. And are why so many are turned off the left. You enjoy your purity politics on your own or go off and abuse another comrade on here. I am going to concentrate on attacking facists. Enough of this now bye🥱.
@earthygirl011 What about on local councils? What if by working with another party they can stop a Reform Council Administration? Should they collaborate then?
As a gay man who has been on the receiving end of homophobic violence, I would love to abolish male threats against gender non conforming presentation!
Given it’s a byproduct of misogyny, you know that’s not going to happen any time soon - although all men need to fight it as hard as we can. As a gay man I clearly feel that acutely!
There’s no evidence base about trans women using men’s toilets because it’s almost never happened.
You know perfectly well what will happen if suddenly trans women start accessing men’s toilets. Putting people presenting as the opposite gender in that environment would result in abuse, humiliation and violence.
Trans women know this and will simply stop using public toilets, which will mean withdrawing from society.
The idea businesses, organisations and local authorities will invest in creating and maintaining third spaces is a fantasy - and you know it.
I would respect you more if you simply said “yes life will be made significantly harder for trans women, trans men and butch lesbians, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay.”
In practise you’ve helped create a law which combines being both unjust and impractical, and which makes us an outlier among Western nations.
It will do nothing to reduce the rate of male violence against women, the principal causes of which have been ignored because of Britain’s anti-trans hysteria.
As a result, this law will - in time - collapse, and history will make its judgements accordingly.
Enjoy your victory while you last! And that’s the thing. None of you are behaving like you’ve won anything. Telling!
@SimonPeterGreen@TheGreenParty Where did I ever say that the relationship of the means of production had changed or even that workplace organisation isn't desirable? Clearly it is. More union members = good. I am simply noting that most people aren't union members. Why are you so hell bent on arguing with me?
@SimonPeterGreen@earthygirl011@TheGreenParty You don't know me or my politics so stop jumping to conclusions. We have to accept that the workforce has changed but recognising that doesn't mean I think capitalism has. Understanding how helps form stagegy. X Posts are too short to discuss post industrial labour organisation.
I honestly don’t think the Makerfield election should be taking as much of the Green Party’s attention & energy as it is. It’s causing so much unnecessary discord & distraction, both sides of the debate.
@SimonPeterGreen@earthygirl011@TheGreenParty 13%, 4.2 million workers are sole traders so have no boss, or workplace. 47%, 13.1 million workers are in small businesses. That's 60% of all workers. The workplace has changed dramatically. Fwiw I don't think the Green party is Socialist. But then neither was Labour under Corbyn
