Since Lord Grade has crawled out once again from under his stone, blessing @GBNEWS with his admiration, it's worth recalling that Grade was utterly useless in every senior role he occupied with broadcasters (I had direct experience). Best to ignore him.

@SpiesVespers Ermmm ... no. It wasn't "full of factual inaccuracies". There were a few, but as my book on the Spycatcher affair revealed, Wright's evidence was largely good & the British Government's case was farcical.
I have a copy of the only extant PIE membership list. There are no recognisable BBC names - management or otherwise - on it. The reason the list has not been released is simple: to do so would be a breach of privacy (PIE was vile but not illegal - though it should have been.)
Why has the BBC never released the list of 300 PIE members, and every organisation, charity, school, university, civil service or government position they held?
The BBC are happy to name-and-shame when it suits them, but pedo's always get a free pass..๐งต

@SpiesVespers@Barthsnotes It wasn't. It was a bit of PR created for the main Australian Spycatcher trial. My book on the extraordinary saga has more on this (& much, much more !)
@AndrewPRLevi If nothing else, this wretched business exposes (once again) the absence of a written constitution which would spell out requirements precisely. Without one, we rely on 'tradition', 'precedent' & the good chap theory of government. Woefully outdated & not fit for purpose.
Yet again @carolecadwalla is absolutely spot on correct. Brittin should be nowhere near the BBC - and companies using illegally scraped content to power their AI must be stopped. (Declaration of interest: 18 of my books have been stolen for or by AI LLMs.)
NEW: Will Google's AI hype man kill the BBC?
I've written about Matt Brittin because the coverage of his time at Google is shockingly naive.
The BBC's next DG made his career as a yes man at a rapacious AI monopoly that preys on news journalism in order to destroy it.

A fine and important piece from @arusbridger. But I'd add the context that @Ofcom has been a non-regulating regulator for many years before the advent of @GBNEWS. That's why all British Public Service Broadcasters have been allowed to reduce drastically their PSB content.
Since @Ofcom seems to have given up, we asked 20 experienced journalist from a wide range of backgrounds to watch multiple hours of @GBNEWS . Their conclusion: the supposedly regulated channel has, in effect, become Reform TV. How did it happen? https://t.co/LeWNX79g1y
@IamAustinHealey is absolutely correct. Under Borthwick, @EnglandRugby have no pace, no attacking strategy, no idea - except to follow his dullard script. Time for a change.
"The numbers aren't good for Steve Borthwick, I think it's time for a change."
Austin Healey doesn't hold back on England's current predicament.
๐บ @TNTSports & @DiscoveryplusUK
@TightFive_Rugby F. Smith has been very poor; Atkinson anonymous; Freeman as useless as always. But they are all playing to Borthwick's utterly stupid 'game plan'. He simply has to be sacked.
@MadocRoberts 'Snow'/Owens does feature briefly in the book (hardback p.83). But he was not a traitor from Nazi convictions & the book concentrates on those who were.
Thank you for this recommendation. The book is available from Amazon and all good booksellers. And with as much modesty as I can muster, it's a bracing read and a very important secret history ...
If you need any more recommendation, even the CIA calls my @iconbooks investigative spy expose & legal drama "captivating", "cogent" and "exceedingly well" written. And who am I to disagree ?
@TimTateBooks tells the story of Peter Wright's ruthless and lawless obsession to uncover Russian spies, his determination to reveal the truth, and the lengths the British government would go to silence him.
To Catch a Spy is out now in paperback!

Would love to see England have the ambition and desire to attack like Italy. Whoโd have thought weโd think like that about England and Italy, Steve Borthwick needs to give Lee Blackett the reins fully in attack
