We bade farewell to the outgoing DHM and long-time Charge d’Affaires, @edwardabarnett, this morning. He has been an outstanding colleague and will be missed by us all in Somalia. A warm welcome to @NickJaquesUK who brings a wealth of experience to the role. @UKinSomalia
We’re saddened by the loss of our staff member and a family relative of FAO staff during last week’s attack in Mogadishu.
National staff work at the frontlines & too often bear the brunt of such attacks on humanitarians.
We stand with our staff & all Somalis during this time.
Iska warran? My first Somali language class in Mogadishu! Not easy, but am enjoying learning a language with such a rich history of storytelling, poetry.
Together with the first Deputy President @Jubaland H.E Mohamud Sayid Aden had a very fruitful meeting with Deputy Mission of @US2SOMALIA Mr. Timothy on our governance priorities. We appreciate U.S government's noble efforts in state building process in Somalia @USAIDSomalia
By the time a famine is declared, it's too late because people have already started dying.
The window of opportunity to prevent famine in Somalia is closing fast.
#FightFamine
The stories of the families I met in Baidoa, #Somalia, need to be heard by people around the world. Their children are dying. Their livelihoods are gone. Their suffering is immense.
We fear it’s about to get worse.
We can’t allow that to happen.

.@POTUS spoke with President Kenyatta yesterday and applauded Kenya’s leadership and commitment to democracy, human rights, economic growth, and sustainable development. The U.S.-Kenya relationship is strong and is critical to addressing issues in the Horn of Africa.
I am honored, and beyond humbled, to have been sworn in today by @VP Kamala Harris as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.
Diplomacy is back. Multilateralism is back. America is back.
We recognize the African American men and women, past and present, who have made history in advancing our diplomacy around the world in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifices, and ingenuity have made @StateDept better. #BlackHistoryMonth https://t.co/GbetLIycwG
No one should be discriminated against or abused because of sexual orientation or gender identity. @POTUS Biden makes that clear by directing federal agencies to ensure U.S. foreign policy promotes and protects the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons. Human rights belong to all.
I am committed to building a diverse and inclusive @StateDept. We cannot do our job of advancing America’s interests, values, and commitment to democracy without a team that is truly representative of the American people.
The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to working with the African Union to advance our shared vision of a better future.
