The problem with the Great Books is that they essentially ignore the conditions of modernity: industrialization, modern media, mass scale cities and institutions, the therapeutic/managerial state, and of course modern technology.
In India, a man has been standing in one place for five years as a vow to the god Shiva
He does not sit or stretch his legs and sleeps while supported by a special harness.
His legs have become severely swollen and darkened due to poor blood circulation, and temple volunteers treat them with ointments.
After completing the vow period, he believes he will receive an inner energy that will “force” the deity to manifest.
@WillyRice@clbolt Praying for you. I’m glad to have you representing and leading our convention for the next two years.
My daughter is attending as a first time messenger, and her first-ever ballot was cast for you. I’m sure she’ll one day look back on that with pride!
To help pass the Truth and Unity Amendment, plan to be in the room by 4:30 this afternoon for the Committee on Order of Business Report.
Vote ‘yes’ today on suspending standing rule 6 so that you can vote ‘yes’ tomorrow morning on the Truth and Unity Amendment.
Sam, I don’t know anything about the bickering that led up to this, but I pastor an average sized, older congregation. We clearly share the gospel at VBS every year, Upward Basketball every week for 3 months, and we even go out and knock on doors, besides the personal gospel conversations that I and others have throughout a year. I make a gospel appeal in every single sermon which is preached carefully and expository as I was trained to do at SBTS.
We see many good signs of spiritual growth, but have not really had beyond 2-4 baptisms in any given year.
We are also careful with candidates for baptism, especially children, to make sure they clearly understand the gospel and are showing at least some fruit.
I assure you, our numbers do not come from a lack of trying, a lack of prayer, or a lack of gospel clarity. I suspect you’ll find similar stories in many rural, older, churches.
Today, words fail us. It’s been a long, hard battle the last few years. In times like this, the sacrifices and the struggles don’t even matter. A few hours ago we received the most earth-shattering news that our 20 year old son, Evan Roberts Locke, could not be revived after his heart stopped due to an overdose. His struggle was very public. It was used as a warning to many, a punchline to the haters but an overall reminder that even in our deepest pain, the grace of Jesus will sustain us. I’ll address the church family with arrangement details this Sunday. Please respect our privacy. He has 5 heartbroken siblings and a world of people that helped him along his journey.
"Why am I in cuffs because of something he shared, then I shared?"
"Because someone has been caused anxiety based upon your social media post. That's why you've been arrested."
This right here should scare the living sh*t out of you. These two sentences alone. We have a lot of work to do.
