On CNBC, Joe Kernen reminds Dom LeBlanc of some stark economic realities in Canada
"Minister LeBlanc, this is the last thing Canada needs. And I'm not sure whether you have a good feel for, for changes that need to be made in the economic approach of Canada."
"The OECD projects that Canada out of 38 OECD members will rank 38 dead last in GDP per capita growth through 2060. And I'm trying to figure out why."
"I looked to see and I do find one thing it says here, tax and regulatory competitiveness."
"There's a gap even with the US where we think regulate, you know, permitting." @JoeSquawk@DLeBlancNB
To the Americans:
I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.
And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:
You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.
This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.
Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.
This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.
But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.
This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.
And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:
Thank God for the United States.
Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.
Long may your admirable country dominate the world.
Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.
May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.
Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill.
Thank God for the USA.
Happy 250th.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
Canada is a textbook case of how bad policy turns a resource‑rich nation into a declining one: attack energy, overtax work, bury business in regulation, and then act surprised when growth stalls and separatism rises.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Today, to approve an oil pipeline;
Canada - Alberta: had to implement higher industrial carbon taxes, net zero targets, spend $20+ billion on carbon capture, and MAYBE start working on a pipeline after September 1st, 2027 to complete around 2034. 1 MMb/d.
UAE: Anyways, we gona build a pipeline to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, it will be done next year. 1.8 MMb/d

This is the bilingual CEO of TC Energy, a 🇨🇦 company that moves 30% of ALL natural gas within North America across 94,000 km of pipelines. He successfully chaired a 🇺🇸 gov’t study to streamline permitting. His analysis of Canada’s competitiveness?
“Canada has fallen behind… for too long capital has not felt welcome here… we’re competing with the world under a very different set of expectations…the US sanctioned $56 billion of LNG projects, Canada zero… we began construction 8 months after filing our permit (in Mexico)… their Plan 2030 seeks to attract investment of $300 billion."
While Carney dithers with his net zero nostalgia, 🇨🇦 is losing out.
🇨🇦 The CEO of Canada’s largest tech company just said it.🤷♂️
Shopify’s Tobi Lütke — $160B company, built in Canada — is calling out Trump Derangement Syndrome in this country.
When Canada’s own business titans are saying what politicians won’t…
Maybe it’s time Ottawa started listening.
Instead of pivoting to Europe. 🍁

Let me get this straight.
You’ve been in power for ten years. You’ve doubled the debt. You’ve weakened the economy. And now, your answer is to trap young Canadians?
On stage, the Liberal Party of Canada brings out Patrick Pichette, a former senior executive at Google, who now lives in Europe, to suggest that Canadians who want to pursue opportunities in the United States should face an exit tax of $500,000.
Half a million dollars to leave your own country.
This, from someone who once left Canada himself to build a career in the U.S. and paid virtually nothing to do so.
So let’s be honest about what this is.
It is not economic policy. It is not nation building. It is control.
A government that has mismanaged the economy now wants to limit your ability to seek opportunity elsewhere. Instead of creating reasons to stay, they are looking for ways to make it harder to leave.
You do not grow a country by locking people in. You grow it by giving them a reason to believe in it.
Dias hits it.
Canada has put itself on the sidelines of global energy security for too long.
The country is waking up - like Germany and the UK now - with steep industrial decline and a bad Davos hangover from drinking the climate action kool-aid.
In Canadas case this was especially dumb because shutting down pipelines from Alberta was an attack on the largest pool of democracy-based energy assets. Giving despotic states a global market advantage. While doing nothing for the planet.
A lot of people in Ottawa - still isolated from the real world in govt jobs funded with debt - still haven’t connected the dots.
Canada can be the single wealthiest per capita nation in the planet. Being poorer and less globally relevant than we were a decade ago is a choice.
A bad one.
The World consumes 105 million barrels of oil per day. The People and Parties that spent a decade trying to convince Canadians that crude oil was dead should be mocked and vilified.
Canada has a strategic opportunity and a moral imperative to exploit its natural resources.
...worth resharing again.
This Minister (of energy!) should be held accountable for his words and his policies.
The nodding muppet puppets in the background should also be held to account..

Canadas ‘stranded assets’ are EVs.
- The Liberals wasted 50-60 billion we can’t afford on an inept net zero ideology competing with China and the US. All of those assets are stranded now - and they will never be investable again. The money is lost; cash that could have built schools and a real military is gone, burned at the stake of green vanity.
Meanwhile our European allies now badly need all the oil and gas the Liberals cancelled infrastructure projects on for a decade.
After the Russian invasion they even told Germany and Japan there was no ‘business case’ - after they killed that case with taxes & regulations making the economy un-investable.
So now the world wants everything they spent a decade trying to ‘strand’ : oil and gas and mining and forestry and agriculture and manufacturing.
We’ve lost a decade of essential building and investment in the infrastructure needed to get it to global markets.
All those empty EV factories? Stranded assets that are a testament to how badly Ottawa has stranded Canada.
The govt needs to quit burning our money on their fringe green ideology and it taxes and regulation so real companies can hire and build global market access to provide the world with what they really want.
🚨 $544 BILLION.
That’s how much Canada has spent importing foreign oil since 1988 — from Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Venezuela, Russia, Angola, Malaysia, Norway…
All while sitting on one of the largest, safest, most ethical oil reserves on Earth.
And why?
Because Ottawa refuses to build a single East-West pipeline that would keep Canadian energy in Canada, keep Canadian dollars in Canada, and keep Canadian workers employed in Canada. 🇨🇦
For 36 years we’ve been enriching dictatorships while bankrupting our own economy ..all in the name of “virtue.”
No serious country does this.
Only Canada does.🇨🇦
It’s time to stop importing the world’s oil and start exporting Canada’s future.

The sheer magnitude of how badly Canada fucked this up cannot be described with words -- and has led to a demonstrably lower quality of life for Canadians.
These are full integer percentage points of GDP the country has forgone, through completely unforced error. It's pathetic.
For the record:
What has Canada become?
Canada likes to boast about having one of the most educated populations on earth, but when it comes to Trump Derangement Syndrome it behaves like the global capital of political hysteria. What passes for “education” has curdled into progressive indoctrination so deep that basic objectivity and critical thought have become niche pursuits rather than civic norms. Carney’s Davos grandstanding about Canada as a moral superpower is a case study in this self‑congratulatory delusion, all rhetoric and posture, no serious reckoning with power or trade realities.
Common sense of the street suggests that Canada will pay a heavy price for this performance politics, yet now we get Doug Ford charging the hill as the obedient attack dog of the eastern elite, not the defender of Ontario’s real economic interests. It is a breathtakingly stupid strategy while the Ontario economy continues to tank, and instead of course correction we get more theatrical outrage and tribal signalling. Add to that the Bank of Canada, with Macklem dutifully shading monetary and economic rhetoric to fit our own polite, Canadian variant of TDS, and you have institutions reinforcing the same pathology rather than checking it.
What was once an objective citizenry has been reduced to a lap dog culture, yapping on command for the progressive elite and the globalist Davos crowd. Canada’s prosperity still hinges on a hard, unsentimental economic relationship with the United States, yet its political and technocratic class behaves as if hashtags, panels, and summit applause can substitute for leverage, bargaining power, and trade strategy.
Facts, not feelings, will settle this experiment, and on current trajectory Canada will discover that trading sovereignty for moral vanity is a very expensive way to learn basic geopolitical arithmetic. To be clear, Carney is playing a dangerous game.
Canada needs the U.S. far more than the U.S. needs Canada, and indulging TDS as the organizing principle of foreign and industrial policy is not just embarrassing, it is dangerous.
Bessent’s warnings should be taken with utmost seriousness; alas, they are waved away by a political class intoxicated with its own rhetoric. With even a moment’s reflection, one can see the pain of reality that awaits Canada if this trajectory holds. Facts matter, and Carney’s chosen strategy sits squarely on the wrong side of history; one could say he has willingly put Canada on the altar of the progressive, globalist cause and struck the match himself.
One of Confucius’s most enduring observations is that we gain wisdom in three ways: through reflection, which is noblest; through imitation, which is easiest; and through experience, which is the bitterest. Canada once had the confidence and seriousness to choose reflection first. Today, it seems determined to skip both reflection and intelligent imitation and head straight for the bitter lesson of experience. What has Canada become?

🚨 GLOBALISM JUST DIED IN DAVOS
Howard Lutnick just walked into the lion’s den — and told the World Economic Forum exactly what they didn’t want to hear.
“Globalism has failed.”
Not whispered.
Not softened.
Declared — on their own stage.
He dismantled the entire WEF doctrine in minutes:
• Offshoring hollowed out the West
• Cheap labor destroyed innovation
• Net Zero made Europe dependent on China
• Sovereignty begins with borders
• Nations must control their industry, energy, and medicine
Then came the line that shook the room:
“Why would Europe agree to Net Zero when they don’t even make a battery?”
That’s the truth globalists can’t answer.
Green agendas without industry.
Climate pledges without sovereignty.
Moral posturing while outsourcing power to Beijing.
America First isn’t isolation.
It’s independence.
And Lutnick made it crystal clear:
The old model is finished.
The globalist experiment has failed.
And the future belongs to nations that put their people first.
Davos just heard the obituary — live.
The summer of love - and trade wars - is coming.
Alberta is going to be ground zero:
- On July 1; CUSMA/USMCA gets reviewed and restructured
- This fall, Alberta votes on Independence.
Meanwhile, Ottawa has been flirting with China (4pc Cdn exports) and EU+UK (10pc) while ignoring the USA (77pc).
With only a few months left before negotiations start with the USA, it might be good for Ottawa to be reminded of two foundational US strategy documents: Steven Mirans paper on restructuring the global trading order from Nov 2024 and the new US Natl Security Strategy from December 2025.
The US has made it clear that trade, energy and security will be combined in all negotiations - and that the security posture of the USA will pivot to near-shore assets integrated into a defence posture from which they will project lethal force at will.
The Americans know that Alberta holds more oil than the USA, Russia and China combined and has as much gas production as Qatar. And that Alberta has net transferred more than 300billion to the rest of Canada the past couple decades.
And that Alberta is chafing because Ottawa’s leftist green politics have for a decade treated that extraordinary energy wealth as a problem; restricting it with red tape and green rules that Alberta struggles to get around.
They also know that Mark Carney, author of the GFANZ initiative that fell apart as American banks pulled out, is deeply ideological about energy, the environment and believes in Keynesian debt economics.
So they are going to play hardball.
Expect flirting and more from the USA as Canada dithers under the Liberal on whether it is serious about being an integrated nation that can get rid of a one way tanker band and recklessly bad regulation to build a coastal pipeline - or not.
Because the Americans will run out the clock on Ottawa and whatever trade and security strategy this is.
2026 is going to be the summer of love - and trade wars.
And the Americans aren’t flirting.

What happened in Lethbridge is a nightmare. Three underage girls allegedly unlawfully confined, abused, and trafficked. Then, within minutes of being released by the courts, the police caught the perpetrator allegedly violating his release conditions.
Alberta has been the leading voice in the county on bail reform. So once again the system is broken. The federal government must accelerate the bail reform bill or Alberta will once again take the position of demanding that bill C-75 be repealed.
On behalf of all Albertans and Canadians, we cannot tolerate alleged predators from going after our children.
