Attending the @AOSpine Research Commission meeting at Iceland discussing serious spine surgery topics as the chairman of #KFDegen. But finding time to explore at night with Stephen Lewis chairman of #KFDeformity and Gregory Schroeder #KFTrauma.
The #AOSpine#KFDegen research group met and discussed our research priorities at the GSC in Bangkok. Our group is now over 55 international surgeons and scientists and is dedicated to filling the key knowledge gaps in Cervical and Lumbar spine
I am happy to give the Luis Vialle award to Sathish Muthu for being the most outstanding KF associate and the KF associate research award to Philip Louie to study Hybrid Surgery “acdf and disc replacement”. #aospine#kfdegen#PhilipLouis#SathishMuthu
@UoG_SpineLab@AOSpine We did a survey of AOSpine members and found that 80% do not close the muscle. However, the vast majority of the Deformity KF surgeon do close the muscle. Not closing: concern about strangulating the muscle lack of muscle layer "strength", waste of time etc.
Spine closure "controversy" was discovered at the joint meeting of Degen KF and Deformity KF at GSC2023. For lumbar wound closure do surgeons close the muscle layer? Opinions were very strongly held, but very divided! Some close muscle others do not! @AOSpine
@AOSpine We had a great meeting of the Degenerate Knowledge Forum #DegenKF. We are growing and working hard to improve spine care. Thanks to all that participated. @AmitJainSpine Dan Riew, HJ Miesel, and so many others.
Join @AOSpine Spine Knowledge Forum Degenerative symposium tomorrow morning at #GSC2023 in Prague about Degenerative #Spondylolisthesis- Advances in treatment. I’ll give a talk about decompression only treatment for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. @AmitJainSpine@TimYoonMD
At Global Spine Congress 2023 our group KF Degen presented a Symposium on ACDF with Dan Riew, Jeff Wang, Amit Jain, HJ Meisel, Andreas Demetriades, Zorica Buser, and myself. Great talks and discussions.
Leaders should remember one of my favorite proverbs that was mentioned at the AOSpine Research Commission meeting today. The Education Commission and the Research Commission are coming together to improve knowledge dissemination.
AOSpine Research Commission which over sees and approves the budget of AOSpine research efforts had dinner together. Klaus Schanke the chairman of KF Trauma and I took a moment to laugh and enjoy Prague after dinner.
The Degen KF is an international research group with a group studying Cervical Spine, Lumbar Spine, and Emerging Technologies. We will meet at GSC 2023 and work with all Spine Journals to create a standard method of reporting "Fusion" after ACDF surgery.
Headed to Prague for the Global Spine Congress. The Cervical group will work on defining fusion after ACDF with Christopher Martin, Daniel Riew, Sam Cho, Amit Jain, and many others!
