@DWPgovuk's Permanent Secretary apologised for mistakes over carer's allowance overpayments. 90,000 carers built up debts to DWP, many unknowingly. Debts could have been avoided had DWP previously checked all HMRC alerts on income changes. It now checks all alerts.
We're looking into the pre-pension income gap - the financial shortfall people experience if they retire before they reach State Pension age. @Ageing_Better sets out how this can disproportionally affect people who have a job that impacts their health as they age
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we thank everyone in the community for working with us.

"Removing the two-child limit is very welcome. It will almost immediately lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty and stop even more being drawn into it.
This pre-pension income gap is a potentially significant issue for people that have laboured in work for decades but their ill-health forces early retirement on them.
Many people in their early sixties face falling incomes before reaching pension age 📉
Our Committee has launched a new inquiry into the pre-pension income gap to understand why and explore how support can be improved.

Plans to merge the National Careers Service and Jobcentres are an exciting opportunity, but progress is too slow. We call for a joint @DWPgovuk & @EducationGovuk strategy, a review of funding, and clear accountability.

We welcome the concessions that the Government made to the UC Bill. However, there are still issues with the welfare reforms.

Yesterday, we questioned Work and Pensions Secretary, Liz Kendall at our session on the work of @DWPGovUK.
Watch the video to hear her view on tackling high welfare costs ⬇️
According to @DWPgovuk there are around 700,000 disabled people who don’t currently have a job but want to work.
We want to understand why progress on closing the ‘disability employment gap’ has stalled and what can be done about it.
