Freelance journo for lots of great places like Ars Technica, MotorTrend, and TechCrunch. I dig tech and autos. Fortune once called me the Nicest Guy in Tech.
New day, new list of where else I am!

After much debate and tinkering with settings, I've finally made the move and ported my newsletter away from Substack. Those in the newsletter game have surely seen no shortage of discussion online about the merits of staying vs. leaving and trust me it hasn't been an easy call.
Anyhow, given the extra cost of hosting on Beehiiv, shares and subs are more appreciated than ever. Here's the first post on the new platform!

I couldn’t help thinking about precedents of icons going electric and getting torn apart because of it. Please enjoy some thoughts on why I appreciate the Luce, even if it isn’t the brand’s most sultry car.
However, there is one big reason why I’m concerned about its success…
@Scobleizer Too rounded? Too feminine? The Ferrari 330 P3 is widely considered to be the most beautiful car in history, and it is WAY more rounded than the Luce.
And screens too small? American drivers are revolting against touchscreen reliance. The Luce interior is spot-on.
Spotted in the German countryside, it's a Porsche 718 prototype with no signs of combustion. No exhaust. No engine noise. After all the chatter of the EV being canceled, I'll take this as an encouraging sign that the project is continuing. #porsche
Respect the riders. Respect the race. Respect the #GirodItalia
🫶 Fans, Tifosi. We love you on the roadside. We love your enthusiasm, we love that you cheer on the riders, we love that you dress like flamingos.
❌ But there's a line not to cross. Don't be like this guy.
Also, your next car will almost certainly have AI in it. But will it have AI in the design, too? It’s more likely than you think.
Finally, a few thoughts on digital detoxing, which I'm very thoroughly enjoying while home.

Toyota’s future city has some seriously dystopian early vibes, what with the cameras and the security guards and the empty streets, but there’s potential there for it to be something more significant down the road. Some more thoughts on that in my latest newsletter.
Hands-Off in Ginza: Nissan's AI Autonomy Impresses in JGinza and Shinbashi are some of my favorite areas of Tokyo to wander, but also some of the most miserable places to drive. All the more reason to let the car to the driving.

Back in 2013, I was so fed up with Nokian’s studded tires that I swore I’d never buy another set. Here, in 2026, I’m blown away by the tech on display — and hidden within — the company’s latest model. More details in my latest newsletter.
Listen, I understand the skepticism about in-wheel motors and unsprung mass and etc. etc. But after a day behind the wheel of this all-wheel drive pony car, I’m a believer that the potentials outweigh the drawbacks.
