I struggle with my screenwriting if I sit down with only a general goal like, "Write for 2 hours."

I am so much more effective and get distracted so much less with a specific objective, such as:

- Write the bathroom scene.
- Break 1st sequence.

If you have a similar challenge, the most effective process for me has been to define the agenda the night before.

Get very specific about what you want to accomplish. Make it manageable and realistic.

This should be the minimum of what you want to get done that day.

Know exactly what you want to do before you even sit down.

So that moment the butt hits the seat, you can hit the ground running.

No, wondering what to do next, which lets your mind wander to distractions...

You can just write.

1. What story are you telling?
2. What emotion are you trying to evoke?

Your job gets much easier when you let these central values guide your decision-making.
