“That’s new. I haven’t been called “Literal Time” before. I suppose I am literally, and spiritually, and most certainly absolutely l am 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲. He is me and I am he.”

There was a hint of amusement in his tone as he reintroduced himself again. It happened often, his existence —

— disclose his name often. Never, really. Except to Alice, of course, but which Wonderlandian doesn’t offer their name to Alice?”

He shrugged as if that explained it.

“As for knowing and seeing all — yes, and yes. I do know all. The beginning and the end of all things. —

— I should explain. As is with conversation. I’m Time. ‘The beginning and the end of all things’, as some say. But Time, first and foremost. And perhaps you don’t know me, but I know you, of course. I know every being in this universe.”

“Aha! Almost stardust. Very much like stardust. Same texture, same movement, but this —”

His hand waved through a cluster of golden dust that was dancing nearby, disrupting the pattern of it.

He scratched the back of his head, looking at her once more. It was only as he rocked back on the balls of his feet that he realised he hadn’t introduced himself, and his hand was extended toward her before he could speak.

“Harls, you said? I suppose —

— realm.”

Around them, glittering time dust breezed by in small clusters. Large patches of light filled the halls, beaming in through the wide windows.

“I expect you rather tumbled through into here, otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

“But of course!”

He turned about on his heel quickly, hands clapping together rather excitedly.

“You’re Harley. Harleen Quinzel. Doctor, I should say. Doctor Harleen Quinzel. But I expect you prefer not to be called by your full name every instance?”

His hands moved —

— with his words, unable to help himself with doing so. He was smiling all the while as he spoke. Her second question made him laugh, and he threw his arms wide to gesture around them.
