Sugary beverages and junk food drive obesity and its comorbidities. As I discussed in my key note address at the last BMSSN conference, a portion of this tax should be used to fund centers of excellence for bariatric care and research.
@DeboOdulana So sorry about your experience. It’s their loss really. They missed out on a really good thing. I was really unhappy not to have had the chance to work with you and do really crazy big things!
Always a pleasure at the BMSSN conference with the top voices in bariatric surgery in Nigeria. This year’s conference at Evercare had everything - insightful discussions, beautiful catching up with old friends, and new networks. Abuja is hosting in 2027. Can’t wait! 😁
To have a successful career, you need three things:
A coach: Someone with the tools and know-how to help you sharpen what is at play. They are usually certified.
A mentor: A senior person who has walked a similar path to yours.
A sponsor: A senior person who mentions your name in places you cannot access. Sponsors choose you because you are AUTHENTIC AND DEPENDABLE. You will not stain their white because their name carries weigh
‘It is unfair for society that bariatric procedures are only accessible to the very rich and the poor are left to suffer. We have to change this narrative’ - Dr Dada Former MD FMC Ebute Meta.
Massive call to action. We need to make bariatric procedures affordable to Nigerians!
Tomorrow’s presentation is just putting my MBA into real world use. Scaling bariatric surgery in Nigeria needs us to be more businessmen than doctors tbh. We need to start thinking like aggressive enterpreneurs.

Stimulating discussion at the ACEN conference at the University of Ibadan last week. Raising awareness that bariatric surgery can lead to cure of chronic disease such as hypertension and T2DM and should be discussed as an option to qualified patients.
Doing some research work and did you know about half of the entire Nigerian population is 17years old or less and child/adolescent obesity prevalence is up to 10%? We are so heavily focused on undernutrition while obesity is slowly creeping in. Interesting times ahead.
