He told you the amount,

But a higher number doesn't mean better living. What matters is what that wage can actually buy.

𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹: ₦18,150

Essentially, the minimum wage covered a basic food basket.

The same basic food basket now costs over ₦100,000. And that's just four items.

At ₦97 per litre, ₦18,000 could buy approximately 185 litres of petrol.

Not even a basic food basket. Not a full tank of fuel. Not both.

A wage that looked generous on paper in 2014 was actually a livable minimum. A wage that sounds generous on paper in 2026 cannot cover the essentials Nigerians buy every week.
