Director Tsui Hark's 1995 take on the wuxia genre was a flop at the 1995 box-office, but THE BLADE has gained an impressive notoriety over the years. This new Criterion 4K/BD release showcases the Hong Kong director's radical vision, in a decidedly non-romantic tale of a one-armed avenger.
Hong Kong Cinema Historian & Warner Bros Archivist Jeff Briggs joins me to review THE BLADE 4K released March 31, from Criterion. Jeff worked with the good folks at Criterion to bring this set to the fans, and he provides background on the film and supplemental materials. Jeff also discusses how The Blade is a crown jewel of Warner Bros' Golden Harvest Catalog, and could be the first of more to come from their collection.
