It’s been a long journey, but finally it’s happening! Today in Dili the
PMs of Australia & Timor-Leste will celebrate the ratification of the new treaty which will establish Timor’s permanent maritime boundaries. Our final campaign message here: https://t.co/8Zc2khoGkm
Saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Helen Hill, an inspiring and influential figure for many Timorese and Australians alike.
As an activist and an academic, Helen worked tirelessly to create spaces for #Pacific & #TimorLeste.
Vale Helen. Your voice will continue on.
A wonderful character, a wise teacher and a marvelous activist.
Farewell to Dr Helen Hill, a true champion of solidarity.
Thoughts to her family members and many friends in Australia, Timor Leste, and beyond. ✊
I have just learned that East Timor activist John Sinnott died this morning. He campaigned for ET for years, when ET was ignored by most Australians. He was awarded the Order of Timor-Leste. He will be remembered by Timor activists and many in Timor-Leste. #timorleste#easttimor
Even after the Attorney-General dropped charges against Bernard Collaery, the Australian government continues their quest to keep the details of Australia spying on one of our poorest neighbours secret.
SNAP PROTEST:
Administrative Appeals Tribunal, 9:30am tomorrow Thursday 28 July
Government lawyers will be arguing against a request from @MrRexPatrick to declassify 20 year old documents relating to Australia's spying on Timor Leste.
No more cover ups!
Great piece by @KieranHRLC on @markdreyfusQCMP decision on Collaery. ‘From abuse in offshore detention to misogyny in parliament we can achieve change & accountability when we know the truth. Without the truth, we are blindfolded to injustice & iniquity.’ https://t.co/KJ0gI9Pql3
Bernard Collaery and Witness K have long been considered heroes in Timor-Leste because they helped deliver a median line in the Timor Sea. The revelation of Australia's spying on Timor-Leste shamed Australia to the negotiating table. They are now rightfully heroes in Australia.
Whistleblowers make Australia a better place. Without the truth, we are blindfolded to injustice and iniquity. My column for @SatPaper on the long-overdue end to the Collaery prosecution and what must come next https://t.co/wIcWNEFXhD
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus says he doesn't want Bernard Collaery's case to become legal precedent - so what is the future of our whistleblowing laws?
The #Insiders panel unpack the impact of the decision #auspol
I'm so relieved to see the end of this awful, punishing trial of Bernard Collaery. I'm also thinking of Witness K, for whom this decision came too late.
May this herald a new day for whistleblowers in this country, when they're celebrated, not punished.

Today is a good day for Australian democracy. I want to give particular credit to law firms Gilbert and Tobin and White and Case and numerous barristers that have stood in Bernard Collaery’s corner throughout this ordeal https://t.co/prMVIZaKSE
Whistleblower protections are a critical function of a healthy democracy. Bernard Collaery helped shine a light on how the fossil fuel cartel captures and corrupts our politics. He deserves our thanks and rightly, his freedom as well.

I raised this with the AG a couple of weeks ago and am therefore very pleased to see Mark Dreyfus order the Commonwealth to drop spying charges against Bernard Collaery. Now very keen to see expanded whistleblower protection under new integrity measures. https://t.co/n4wikv8BT6
.@markdreyfusQCMP’s use of s71 of the Judicial Act to discontinue the prosecution of Bernard Collaery is a big win for whistleblowing and a positive step in the repairing of Australia’s relationship with #TimorLeste. Well done Attorney-General! #auspol https://t.co/bCtyenpWux
Great news. The right call by @markdreyfusQCMP
This prosecution should never have gone forward in the first place.
Whistleblowers are a necessary safeguard & they need better protection.

Fantastic news. Now we should pay him $1m for wrecking his life and career.
'Bernard Collaery’s leaking charges over East Timor operation dropped on Mark Dreyfus’ orders.' https://t.co/rNeqZxfLcW
