Happy 4th and the underlying promise for our planet of our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...free press, no State sponsored or favored religions...the best system of self-government in existence, "if we can keep it."
Thank you Ralph Buntyn for these thoughts and this bit of near forgotten history. https://t.co/bpVwtWANG3
@HQmindd Most Christians (catholics anyway) and Jewish people acknowledge that this was a fable and not to be taken as history. Otherwise, the Arkansas rules would’ve taken over and we wouldve Habsburg-ed ourselves into a very slow species!
Almost every modern Christian assumes they would have followed Jesus during his earthly ministry.
History suggests the answer may be more complicated.
This video is a historical thought experiment. By imagining what a figure like Jesus might look like in the modern world, we explore just how disruptive his message was to many of his contemporaries—and ask whether we might have reacted the same way.
Would you have recognized Jesus... or would you have believed you were defending God?

This fact often causes some debate depending on which denomination of modern Christianity one belongs to. The early sources were pretty clear about this point though:

@___TheGOOdWitch There are parts of the Talmud that seemingly offer a more pragmatic view of abortion as well. HOWEVER, some of the earliest Christian communities banned it by at least the second century. (Didache 2:2)
I am still thinking about Joseph, the father of Jesus, and what all went into his decision to stay and adopt him. I am working on a longer video examining marriage and society in the first century to try to understand why he remained.

@MikeWingerii yes but modern Christians reject many of the beliefs of the earliest christian groups directly linked to the historical Jesus. Most today follow Paul rather than Jesus' own historical movement. Seems about the same to me.
@MeltingSnowBro@Timelord420 I love the Mandaeans and can totally relate to falling into the black hole. @ReligionProf does some excellent work detailing their faith and history. You should check him out!
@JayDyer "Gnostics" made up a sizeable chunk of "Christendom" in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Christianity wasn't always as uniform as it is today. Many of the sects that had a much closer historical association with Jesus no longer exist.
JOSEPH WAS JESUS' FATHER.
JOSEPH COULD HAVE LEFT.
HE ALMOST DID.
BUT HE STAYED.
HE CHOSE TO BE DAD.
YOUR CHOICE CHANGES THE WORLD.
JUST ASK JOSEPH.
Happy Father's Day to ALL fathers, Bio or otherwise.

@TulsiGabbard I’m sorry to hear this. I’m very glad he has had a successful surgery. Best wishes to your husband, yourself, and everyone who suffers from cancer.
