@MiriamCadyPhD Thanks Miriam. I searched but couldn’t find another image & don’t remember it occurring before, so it’s interesting to see then it has happened before. It just looked very strange to see a plain balcony, but I appreciate why there remained uncertainty about today’s appearance.
From an architectural and historical point of view, was today a first for seeing the Queen and members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the stone balustrade not dressed with velvet swags and tails ?

If you love urban architecture from earlier times, then #Havana is an absolute must see if you ever have the opportunity. I was lucky to spend a couple of days there in 2018. It is top of my bucket list of cities to revisit. More info here :- https://t.co/cUGCTPm5gJ #Cuba 🇨🇺
@Jess__Taylor__ Loved the photos shared by @chrisloder today. I’m sure your brief is to capture the people, but you have access to an amazing building in the Palace of Westminster, so occasional closeups of architectural detail would be wonderful, security considerations aside.
@Fern_Britton Losing a parent will always be emotionally catastrophic Fern, for all of us, but to loose him near Christmas can be even harder, but you must always remember those wonderful times and memories, that only you will have, with him, and be thankful. 💔Take care. 😔(hug)

Please forgive this tweet, as I am unable to DM you directly.
Might you happen to have an association with Hinton Hall after your arrival in the UK on the kindertransport. It is a building I have researched extensively and you may have a personal connection ?
@C_Stranks @Horatioforever @stiffleaf @PeterOrganKing There is certainly a very healthy stonemasonry industry in France, as we commissioned a three storey, three-quarter stone spiral staircase from France only a couple of years ago. There were plenty of very capable stonemasons for whom this was straightforward.
@JonathanFoyle More recent photo taken in daylight seem to unfortunately indicate that the vault immediately above the crossing (situated beneath the spire) may have subsequently collapsed in the period between the two photographs being taken.
When you broaden the radius away from Paris there are other less visited masterpieces such as Rouen, Amiens, Bayeux, Quimper & Le Mans. These books from 1913 didn't know of the damage about to be inflicted to Reims during WW1, but it's heartening to know so many have survived. /2
As appalling as the damage to (not destruction of) Notre Dame is, it's important to remember she is just one of France's great cathedrals. 60 miles southwest of Paris is Chartres, in many ways even more impressive than Notre Dame & within Paris the exquisite La Sainte Chapelle 1/
@JonathanFoyle Ironically the drone photo gives me a little hope that, given the huge height of the building, and the angle the drone photo is taken from, maybe the burning wooden roof structure is sitting on top of the intact stone vaulted ceiling, rather that looking down into an open abyss.
Someone is smiling on me today. Amongst other pleasing things occurring, I found a purchase at auction of a detailed old book on staircase & handrail joinery, also, without realising, include a huge book on gothic architecture from 1847. Here are some of the illustrations.
@ChrisRedgrave1 @JonathanFoyle How sad. I spent many hours of my 1970s childhood in Foyles, with my mother after she'd popped next door to St.Martin's School of Art to say hello to her former colleagues. She attended as a student & then became one the teaching staff. I think my love of books originated there.
@GrandDesigns@Kevin_McCloud@MOgundehin@damion_burrows@RIBA@Channel4@GrandDesigns We're rather tempted to enter 'House of the Year' if we finally finish, but 18 years on, we're still at it! At least the 'new' original bit, circa 1650 & demolished in the 1920's is now standing on the original footprint. All we had was the old foundations to go on.
@thenec@Farm_Innovation Perhaps someone like @theJeremyVine or @CMAgovUK might like to look into just how @theNEC can abuse its dominate position & impose a 60% hike in parking charges. A quick search on Twitter reveals plenty of unhappy visitors since 5th Oct 2018.
