"Businessmen became politicians and were acclaimed as statesmen, while statesmen were taken seriously only if they talked the language of successful businessmen."
— Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism
.@MurrayWatt says Australians do not want “robots making arbitrary decisions about workers’ livelihoods”, and called on employers to consult with their employees before introducing “highly intrusive” performance management technology. https://t.co/7yjiL5qdGT
A new technological era requires a new discussion and agreement about workplace rights. Workers and their unions need to have a place in the discussion and the rights humans need to lead fulfilling lives
The idea that Woolworths is being hard done by….1200 workers stricking for pay and safety after pushing most families into a cost of living crisis with sky rocketing prices is just beyond belief #auspol#woolies
@EwinHannan A significant win for this great union (my old union). Winning employees' rights over Ai algorithm determination of imposed efficiency standards.
Probably the first Union win over Ai and a precedent for future Ai conflicts.
We stand with striking warehouse at Woolworths (who co-own us). Their fight in the face of inhumane algorithms is part of the struggle for the social control of technology, and human decency in the midst of the climate crisis.

Through torrential rain and oppressive heat the Woolies warehouse workers are holding the line. They're fighting for safer work, secure jobs and fair pay, but instead Woolworths want to treat these people like disposable machinery that can be mistreated until they're broken.
We are starting to see the amount of money Woolworths is willing to pay to ignore striking workers' call for a fair workplace - $50 MILLION and counting
Seems they saved up a lot squeezing their shoppers & workers over the last few years! #WooliesStrike

Woolworths is downplaying supply shortages despite photos on social media showing bare shelves as strikes continue at the supermarket giants' distribution centres.
IMPORTANT WOOLIES UPDATE: Indefinite strike action by Woolworths warehouse workers is now causing beer and wine shortages as the impact on customers spreads from supermarkets to the shelves of Dan Murphy’s and BWS outlets across Victoria and southern NSW. https://t.co/3B2Q1HKYIf
