I reckon folks just miss the simpler days of old school HTML, but that doesn't cut it in web apps these days.
A month ago I was offered a senior position for a tech company without writing a single line of code. The entire interview was discussion based, with some problem solving. Very refreshing. I start next week.
@RandallKanna The best interview I've done had me review a tech design document and discuss the good, bad and ugly about it. There was a sizable flaw in the original design. I got an offer and wrote zero lines of code during the process.
It’s strange to me that in all the conversation about developer productivity, I rarely see people talk about the cost of turnover.
There is loss of time and money and a strain on morale due to interviewing, onboarding, instability, and the shift of group dynamics.
