Imagine you have an employee with something serious going on. You allow them to move. You know it’s going to cost you money, hurt your productivity. But it’s the right thing for the employee.

And then getting roasted by your supposed most loyal patrons. Brutal.

@dangriff10 @TaylorTwellman I can say my house is worth 4 million. But if no one buys it, it’s a made up number. Next year his value is cut in half. Due to the time value left in his contract. What you assign value to isn’t what the market does.

@wildbob420 @TaylorTwellman 4-6 million is ideal conditions. Anywhere in the world. He is a 30 year old leaving MLS to go to BL2. Next year is “estimated” value drops by 50%. It’s reported he’s taking a pay cut too. Handcuffing him here is more dangerous. I don’t like it either.

@wildbob420 @TaylorTwellman Sometimes there are no good moves. I mean, we could play hardball and force him to stay, but is he going to play better? And his value drops next year too cause of time value loss on his contract. I’m not praising this a the best business move. It’s the deal we have now.

@willbrattonstl Hartel is a baller in the MLS but 4-6 mm on a 30 year old in the MLS going back Germany was never an option. 1st league teams didn’t want him for a reason. Next year his value is cut in half. Max value comes from being able to go anywhere AND what they’re willing to pay.
