I lost my mother in 2021. This is her diary from 1966 when she was 17.

I didn’t work tonight. I did some book work for my dad when I got home from work. I washed my hair & went to bed about 11:15. Mum & dad were out & were late back.

John’s having a party on Saturday. He’s asked Brenda Lumb to go & she likes Harry. I worked over tonight & then went straight to Pat’s & stayed the night there. I dreamt about Harry.

I didn’t work over tonight. I went to the Y Club. Harry didn’t have much to say & once again didn’t offer to take me home. Cried myself to sleep.

I got up at 10 o’clock. I went to chapel & just as expected Harry acted as if nothing had ever happened, worst luck. I’d love him to ask me to go out with him.

and he was fabulous. I got home at 3:45am.

I went to Leeds this morning with Brenda & Gill & we got our dresses for the wedding from BHS. J, D & H & B came for me at about 7:45pm. We got to B’pool at about 10:20pm Brenda was with David. I sat with Harry all the way back. He put his arm round me as soon as I got in the car

I went to the YC. John brought me up & I went to Gordon’s for supper with him & David & Harry. John brought me home about 12:45pm.

I didn’t work over again tonight. I rang Dianne up to see if she would go to Blackpool but she wouldn’t. We went to The Plough in Mirfield from work for a meal. It was gorgeous. I went in my new white dress.

Pat & I went to Night School tonight for cake decoration but they were full so we left our names. Rang John & they’d come last night to see if I wanted to go to Blackpool on Saturday.

I worked over again tonight until 8 o’clock. I went home & had nowhere to go so I went to bed early. Mum & dad went out driving. J, D & H came at 11:15pm to see me but I was in bed.

We worked over tonight & then I went to the youth club. I took my photos for John to look at. They’d been decorating for Mrs Stanley tonight. I caught the bus home at 10:30.

I took the milk this morning and drove the van a bit. I went to the fellowship meeting tonight. Harry gave me a charm from their holidays. I went home about 10:15pm.

I got up about 9:30am. Pat rang to say she’d meet me in Leeds. I could the 5 past 2 bus & met Pat. I got some new shoes & saw a nice dress & also a nice bridesmaids dress. I had a date tonight but I didn’t go I stayed in.

I stayed in tonight. I rang Pat up today at work. She’s coming to Leeds with me tomorrow. No youth club tonight. I did some knitting, I went to bed early.

I worked over again tonight & mum & dad picked me ho at 8 o’clock & we went to the sales in Leeds & then to Nash’s for fish & chips. First time I’ve been.

Pat came up tonight & we went to night school to see if we could enrol for cake decoration but there was no one there. We must have got the dates mixed up.

I dropped out of the play. I took guides for the last time & the guides bought me a box of chocolates. There was a play practise. I stayed talking to Pat ‘til about nine then went home.

We worked over until 8pm today at work. I then went to the YC. I called at Dianne’s for my records. They called at Kathryn’s on the way up. John gave Pat a charm.

We went to Filey to Butlin’s today with Jean & Ronnie & Kids. They all went into the pool but I didn’t. It rained nearly all day which spoilt it really.

I got my Beach Boys LP & I scratched it. It was a great record. Went to Gill’s this afternoon to discuss the wedding, we’re having turquoise. Went to Dianne’s party. Great time. I was with Mary & Dianne’s French penfriend the rest of the night. Went home at 1am.
