‘THE SENATE SESSION OF JUNE 3, 2026 WAS LAWFUL AND VALID'

READ: The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) issues a statement on what constitutes a legitimate quorum for the Senate to conduct official business following the June 3 Senate session, saying the 1949 Avelino v. Cuenco ruling is applicable.

“One senator cannot be compelled to attend the session because he is detained in relation to a non-bailable offense. While another senator cannot be found, as in fact, his whereabouts appear to be unknown since May 11, 2026,” it reads.

DE LIMA: ‘WALA AKONG TINATANGGAP NA PERA’

Impeachment Prosecutor and ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima firmly denied allegations that she received money, stressing: “Wala akong tinatanggap na pera.”

De Lima said she has already filed libel/cyberlibel complaints before the NBI and a perjury complaint before the DOJ over what she described as “blatant lies.”

“Whether sa maleta, sa paper bag o anuman yan, wala akong tinatanggap na pera,” she said, adding that the accusations are fabricated and were merely repeated during a “kwestyonableng hearing sa Senado.”

BACK UP CLAIMS OR APOLOGIZE

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) urged Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to present evidence or apologize after he claimed during a Cayetano-led Senate hearing that many members of the media are “bayaran.”

The agency warned that such allegations could endanger journalists and undermine press freedom.

“These sweeping statements threaten media credibility and expose them to potential harm. Journalists have a duty to report accurately and impartially, and it is critical that public officials respect their role as watchdogs of accountability and truth,” part of the statement read.

“Senator Marcoleta, who has previously championed accountability, should adhere to these ideals by either backing his claims with solid evidence or withdrawing his comments and apologizing to the journalists he has wrongfully accused,” it added.
