The Constitutional Court has found the Western Cape government and City of Cape Town's sale of the Tafelberg Property was unlawful. It also found the Western Cape government has failed to ensure social housing projects in the CBD to address apartheid legacy. @BDliveSA
When we are sober and calmer, we need to interrogate the lawlessness that we ourselves perpetuate. We must be honest enough to examine the role played by ourselves, our own brothers and sisters, particularly those in the public service, but equally those in the private sector.
Fraudulent identity documents do not process themselves. They are processed by us South Africans. Firearm licences for stolen guns are not issued by ghosts. Corrupt tenders are not approved by politicians ; they bear the signatures of officials who are our spouses, neighbours, friends and relatives.
When your son or mine is known to have raped or assaulted, we mobilise resources to secure the best legal representation for him. We shield him from consequences rather than confront the harm he has caused. When our sons, brothers, uncles, friends refuse to pay maintenance yet alone being present in the lives of their kids; we do not isolate them nor hold them to account, instead we embrace them fully.
The alcohol sold to underage children is sold by a South African. Much of the drug trade relies on South Africans who are an integral part of the value chain.
Go to any township. The elderly fear being raped by children whose parents are known but have become untouchable. Stolen goods are bought by South Africans. Bribes are paid and received by South Africans. Corruption survives because there are willing participants at every level.
This is not to absolve the state of its failures. It is to acknowledge that a society cannot legislate its way out of moral decay while its citizens continue to enable it. So yes, once the emotions have settled, let us interrogate ourselves. Let us ask what role each of us, through our actions, our silence or our willingness to look the other way, has played in the mess we now lament.
We are a lawless, corrupt nation.
Wee @FNBSA your dear friend @CartrackZA is back with their illegal debit orders in my account even after you assisted me with blocking them.. can we open fraud case now
“South Africa can pay every South African 1million rand every year forever. We don’t even need to work. We can have these illegal immigrants come to South Africa to work for us, like in Dubai. In the UAE, only foreigners are working; Arabs aren’t working.”
Dina Pule being brought back as a minister confirms that the ANC speaks from both ends of the mouth about renewal: integrity, ethical leadership and revolutionary morality.
