We found Venus’s secret garden recently, a big patch of our favorite purple wildflowers, Venus’s looking glass! We’re in a drought but they were happy growing near a big creek. Borahae!

Cutie was head-down when they molted, then they turned around and ate the shed skin. Good recycling!

This is Cutie, a monarch butterfly caterpillar who has been inside with us since we found their egg on a stray plant in the lawn at risk of getting mowed. Cutie just molted (shed their skin) and will go outside soon to be a wild caterpillar in the garden.

Tiny Joon met a dark and wild friend in our garden today, a beautiful rat snake! It was about 4 feet long, 1.2 meters. It was gently curious to meet Joonie and it gave him a couple of kisses. We love snakes! (Also these black ones supposedly keep venomous copperhead snakes away.)
