This, in a perfect society whose very origins is “equal” access & opportunity to “assets” may indeed be true.

But what happens when “assets” are the origin of racist violent dispossession? Is a government that presides of this historic injustice not obliged, if committed to JUSTICE, to CORRECT the racist violent dispossession? Is a just government not exercising JUSTICE when it devises a mechanism to RETURN such land to those who were subjects of racist dispossession?

Take Palestine; if Gaza is indeed “sold” to USA (& we still need to honestly answer if Israel has such a right in the first place- that is, to sell land it took through genocidal racist dispossession of Palestinians). In 30 years, those who secure Gaza land to “develop” it, will claim that they did not benefit from dispossession of genocidal proportions. Will the USA be right to claim such land as theirs based on articles of trade? Is this not the pure evil of your logic?

Not only did we (or our forefathers) steal land and racially oppress black South Africans but we never asked for forgiveness for apartheid crimes against humanity

Nelson Mandela and the ANC extended a hand of reconciliation to white South Africans and yet we have never repented for apartheid or made reparations

And now we have this right wing Afriforum (protector of white supremacy) asking US President for sanctions against South Africa

The reason why we struggle to unite as South Africans is because 30 years later, the spoils of freedom are still not equitably distributed. Economic justice was never realised,and that is not on the apartheid government, the ANC needs to take ownership of that. BBBEE is not effective because those who benefit from it are those who are politically connected, after 1994, a few black people got rich and the rest were left in poverty. Then you throw in corruption and you have a melting pot of disillusionment. South Africa needs less politicians and more patriots in government who want to make the country work, not for the few but for the majority.
