When White people ask what they should say to black people show them this video. The answer is simple. Keep your eye on this White girl in the front who uses her privilege to prevent violence. Be that girl. Raise that girl.
I wrote out some thoughts on how to make this moment a real turning point to bring about real change––and pulled together some resources to help young activists sustain the momentum by channeling their energy into concrete action. https://t.co/jEczrOeFdv
How can I help folks with #mindfulness at this time?
I've been providing sessions to clients and am reminded that developing our mindfulness practice helps us honor our emotions, re-center, and empathize.
LMK if you have questions or would like to join a session on it!
As the holy month of Ramadan begins tonight, I wish all those observing peace, health & wellness. While many can’t celebrate in person with family & friends, I hope you can still use this time for reflection, faith & prayer for a better tomorrow. Ramadan Mubarak.
If we want an #inclusive#culture, for every Employee Resource Group (ERG), we would have an analogous group where people work on their #privilege related to that identity.

If you’ve ever thought, “Our organization or culture is DYSFUNCTIONAL,”
I invite you to consider that
It. Is. Functioning. Perfectly. As. It’s. Designed.
Is investing 1% of your day in centering and mindfulness worth it? Is there another activity that takes that little time and is as impactful on your life?
PS - Mindfulness and inclusive cultures are strongly linked. (A post for another day.)

What activity gives you the greatest ROI in terms of how you spend your time in a day?
Doing 10 minutes of centering - setting a deep intention, being still, and cultivating a mindful approach to the day - has got to be high up on that list of very high ROI activities.
10 min is 1% of your waking hours in a day. This 1% can improve the other 99% of the day to be wiser, more intentional, and impactful. We often "don't have" time to be mindful. Yet we do have time to stress out solving problems caused by not being mindful in the first place.
If we have learned to make ourselves conform, we can more easily expect others to conform. (And this is not always a conscious process.)
Changing cultures and creating more inclusion is as much about inner work as it is outer work.
One of the barriers to D&I work we don't often talk about is self-acceptance. We treat others how we treat ourselves. We discard, repress, or shun the parts of our self we believe are not valuable or desirable.
Do we not feel included, or feel sufficient ownership in our role, or underappreciated? Is a part of us trying to avoid blame for where the team is?
When our team members use distancing language, it can be a sign to check in with them on how they're feeling.
I find it helpful when we pay attention to the times we use "distancing" language to refer to the teams we are on (or the organizations we're a part of, for that matter).
E.g., If we're on a leadership team, we say, "The leadership team is flailing right now." (distancing)
as opposed to ... "We're flailing right now." (claiming our role as part of the team).
We use distancing language more often when we are frustrated with our team. When we do, it's an opportunity to pay attention to what's really going on.
