🏈Common mistakes football players make in the offseason‼️
🍟Dirty bulking and gaining bad weight by eating junk food, fast food, and sugar leads to fat gain rather than muscle, reducing speed and conditioning.
❌Poor sleep routine impairs muscle growth and recovery, limiting the benefits of hard training.
🏋️Failing to establish a consistent, long-term training plan from January through August hampers progress.
👀Treating spring practice highlights or lowlights as definitive evidence of a player's ability for the fall season. Spring ball should be for, development and evaluating, not just "playing around".
💥Excessive contact can cause injury before the real season begins. Not focusing enough on understanding the playbook and knowing the role leading to tactical errors. Relying on "Old School” outdated methods rather than modern athletic development.
🍉Neglecting quality nutrition calories limits recovery and training gains. Not taking the time to let the body heal, which leads to injury and fatigue.
🤯Players often forget to train neck muscles, which are crucial for reducing the force transferred to the head during collisions.
😤Many treat football as purely anaerobic, neglecting endurance, which helps players recover between plays and sustain performance.
🥵Setting new max records in the weight room does not always translate to on-field performance or durability.
😱High-intensity interval training (short bursts) is more effective than long-form cardio, as football is largely a game of 3-5 second bursts.
🫡Rushing into complex movements like Power Cleans without mastering the mechanics can lead to injury and improper development.
💊Using random supplements that are not third-party tested and contain heavy metals often proprietary blends.
💦Inadequate hydration, drinking energy drinks instead of eating real food, balanced meals and drinking water.
Youth sports is on life support.
If you think it’s fine, you’re not paying attention.
Kids age 10-12 are playing way too many tournaments and travel ball. Parents treat it like the World Series. They need less travel, more rest, fueling, and actual development. They’re 12 YO.
The data backs it up:
❌70% of kids drop out of organized sports by age 13.
❌Professionalization (year-round single-sport focus, heavy travel/tournaments) drives overuse injuries, overtraining, and burnout.
❌Nearly 1 in 10 youth athletes experience burnout; up to 35% deal with overtraining.
❌Early specialization before 12-13 raises injury and burnout risks significantly.
Multi-sport kids who rest and play for fun stick around longer and develop better.
Let them be kids. Prioritize recovery, fun, and long-term health over trophies. The best athletes often sample multiple sports early and specialize later.
Who else sees this?
If 95% of your teammates are showing growth and development, and you’re not… don’t come complain to me.
You won’t like that conversation.
You get what you put into the weight room every single day. You can’t hide from the process. You can’t cheat the weight room.
Eventually, it will expose you!
The weight room is biased. It only rewards those who work. And it will see right through anyone not willing to do it. It’s a truth teller. You can’t fool it. It will let you know exactly where things stand.
