@ManBearPun @JakeSells5 @KimirrorA @nerdimmersion @JeremyECrawford If the spell text's trigger read something about "rolls and succeeds" or "would succeed" I don't think we would be having this conversation. But it's "succeeds". The monster chose to succeed and it did. That's a possible activation for the spell. The spell is retroactive.

@ManBearPun @nerdimmersion @JeremyECrawford That's what I initially thought, but the text for both doesn't preclude it! A trigger for SB is "success on a saving throw," not "roll and success"; and LR creates a success but the text reads that after a success, must roll and take the lower roll. Lower of 1 is still lower!
