Teach kids to listen. Don't let them develop bad habits like walking away while you are talking to them or interrupting.
Listening is arguably the most important leadership skill. It is definitely a skill that should be included in every leadership dev. prog.

Show them how. Be the example. Care.
Many kids aren't listened to. They have no voice & feel insignificant. Be the leader that listens to them & you will hold a special place in their heart.
Coaching encourages talking but elite coaches know when to shut up & listen.
Conflict makes for great television, but it can be horrible for team dynamics. Conflict works from the inside out and can rip a team apart. Conflict can’t be avoided but it can be managed.
Leaders can’t be spectators when it comes to managing conflict, they have to get engaged and make sure that it doesn’t tear the team apart.
That is why leadership development programs have to develop leaders who have the confidence & courage to compete with character.
