Have you considered how technology has impacted character development?

Character is taught.
Technology has introduced a lot of influencers who are impacting the way that character is developed.
Be intentional about character development & stop leaving it to outside influencers.

Coaches have to teach and provide practice opportunities for leadership development, just like they do for the sport they coach.

Coaches can also lead by example by investing in their own leadership development.

Leaders can’t assume character will be learned, they have to be intentional. It is too important to be taught haphazardly.

Teach kids to listen. Don't let them develop bad habits like walking away while you are talking to them or interrupting.
Listening is arguably the most important leadership skill. It is definitely a skill that should be included in every leadership dev. prog.

Show them how. Be the example. Care.
Many kids aren't listened to. They have no voice & feel insignificant. Be the leader that listens to them & you will hold a special place in their heart.
Coaching encourages talking but elite coaches know when to shut up & listen.

Conflict makes for great television, but it can be horrible for team dynamics. Conflict works from the inside out and can rip a team apart. Conflict can’t be avoided but it can be managed.

Leaders can’t be spectators when it comes to managing conflict, they have to get engaged and make sure that it doesn’t tear the team apart.
That is why leadership development programs have to develop leaders who have the confidence & courage to compete with character.
