Hi friends, I got on the Bird Lifeboat Site. Same @. Please follow me if you want to keep in touch while this place turns into a digital Reichstag Fire. I'm gonna find as many of you as I can.
Also, I have one invite code if any of my mufos here need it.
JLG winning by a massive landslide margin in ward 8 basically destroys the entire argument that @mattyglesias and all the abundochud pundits were making that her base is all just woke white people while McDuffie will win the black vote. They were so completely wrong
Washington DC if you want the wizards to ever be good again this Knicks victory is all the proof you need that we absolutely must elect @Janeese4DC. It is the only way to change things for the wizards
This is a huge crisis that points to the degradation of the Ivy League and of elite education in the United States but also of higher learning more generally. The University has been reduced to vocational training and converted into trade schools. Nothing wrong with those things. But that's not what universities are for. And sort of silly to think universities are well suited for it. Universities are for the sake of the human being qua human and therefore for learning for its own sake. The liberal arts--where you learn things for their own sake--are the arts of liberty. And the idea that you can have liberty without them is pure hokum.
The schools that had the most prevalent protests - including Columbia where I work - either suspended or expelled most of the students protesting Israel's genocide of Gaza. One of my former students has a 3 year (!!!) suspension.
Then, the schools enacted rules making protest nearly impossible. And the very people who pressured the schools to do this are now saying "Where are all the protests?".
Idiots.
Truly, the conduct of J Street in 2023 and 2024 was so shameful, it can go get infinitely fucked. It's not an alternative, it's an AIPAC rebrand for squishy people who are unable to see the horrible reality before them for what it actually is.
J Street aggressively lobbied progressives to not even use the word "ceasefire" back in late 2023, under a Dem president, when it might have actually prevented a lot of the catastrophe.
@Biennorosso@Solidarity_Star Not sure what this means bc Justice Dems doesn't have "members." It's only a fundraising scheme. The point is that, if all you do is fundraise for candidates (unsupplemented by anything else), then leverage becomes limited after the candidate wins.
I'm pretty sure there aren't any economics faculty members at the Kelley School of Business who think subsidizing an NFL stadium is a sound public investment, because all research evidence suggests otherwise.
This is all more of the same posturing from the #Bears. If this is so "meaningful," then take it and save us the boondoggle. Publicly-funded sports stadiums do not benefit taxpayers. More coming up on today's DBU.
@therealburns3@StLouieCardie Wrong. The Bears have been asking for special property tax breaks. That's been the hold-up. The state agreed to fund infrastructure for the stadium years ago.
You cannot criticize Illinois for having pension crises/facing budget deficits while also criticizing them for not giving away tax dollars to a private sports team for their private facility. If you think the former is a problem, then the latter is the responsible move.
@SitesJacob@LaurenceWHolmes "Cash cow" describes what Indiana taxpayers will be doing for the Bears. The Bears are raiding billions in tax revenue from Indiana to pay for a private facility.
