One thing I always avoid in my own writing and flag as an editor is what I call: stage directions. I understand how we, as writers, want to give a clear picture of what we're seeing in our minds, but too many can be considered telling and not trusting the reader 👇

One thing I learned from watching Hayao Miyazaki films is that it’s okay to tell variations of the same story over and over again. That sometimes you will need to tell the same story in different ways (often at different points in your life) until you can finally be free of it.
