I literally walked across a benchmark today. Carved into the gritstone bedrock at lady canning’s plantation, a piece of history gradually being worn away.
It’s always fun to stumble across unexpected earthworks on a morning stroll. Flat terraces, most likely former fields, but the lowest one does resemble a tennis court!?? #archaeology #earthworks #southyorkshire #fieldwork
