I always asked myself who I would have been, what or how I would or could have lived in Nazi Germany. It scares me that it’s become an even more divisive issue in my lifetime, that antisemitism is being writ large & it seems to be worse to oppose it. In living memory. How?

Today, a man ran through Golders Green, a Jewish neighborhood in London, stabbing Jews outside a synagogue in broad daylight.

The UK PM called it "utterly appalling."

Here's what's actually appalling:

For two years, Western streets have hosted marches calling for the elimination of Israel. Universities have celebrated it. Politicians have legitimized it. The media has normalized it.

You don't get to spend two years mainstreaming the idea that Jews and their state have no right to exist and then act shocked when someone takes the message literally.

Words have consequences. "From the river to the sea" isn't poetry. "Globalize the intifada" isn't a metaphor.

When you spend years telling the world that Jewish presence in the Middle East or in Golders Green is a problem to be solved, don't be surprised when someone shows up with a knife to solve it.

The ideology and the blade are the same weapon. One just has a longer handle.

If you're shocked by today's stabbing terror attack on British Jews, you must have been living under a rock for the past few years.

Not a single one of the men who drove through North London in 2021 shouting “F*** the Jews, f*** their daughters, f*** their mothers, rape their daughters and free Palestine" were prosecuted. Not one.

As Jews, we don't have the numbers. But we're British Jews. It's instilled in us from an early age that the 'British' part always comes first. It's why Jews are considered a success story of assimilation and integration within British society.

Confused as to why politicians say, on another attempted arson attack on a Jewish building, “these terrorists are trying to divide us - and will not succeed etc etc.” Are they? I’d say that diviseness is not the object. I’d say it’s trying to kill Jews.

After a morning of media interviews in Golders Green, one thing is clear:

We have a serious problem in how antisemitism is reported.

There is a reluctance to treat it as a standalone issue.

Instead, it is constantly wrapped in “context” - Israel, Gaza, Iran and local political stories.

When ambulances with a connection to the Jewish community are set on fire outside a synagogue, the story is antisemitism, not a geopolitical explainer.

Every attempt to pivot to “but what about…” blurs the truth and weakens the response.

We need clarity. Not deflection.

We should never again ask how the hell the Holocaust happened. We’re seeing it. Right here. Right now. Jews are being hunted and the institutions and authorities supposed to protect us not only turn a blind eye - they’re tacitly welcoming it.
