Niels Bohr was awarded the 1922 physics prize for his model of the structure of the atom. 53 years later his son Aage Bohr was awarded the 1975 physics prize for his work on the structure of the atomic nucleus.
Happy Father's Day💫🥰
"If you're not failing, you're not pushing boundaries."
Hear medicine laureate Elizabeth Blackburn speak about the valuable lessons we can learn from failure.
What motivates you at work? Last year's chemistry laureate Omar Yaghi told us what motivates him in his scientific career:
“It’s the thrill of discovery. I think we do science because we want to stimulate our mind. We also want recognition for our work. I think those two things are very important. But then beyond that, you want to do it to impact others. Discovery is the currency of influencing people’s way of thinking, of changing people’s lives for the better, impacting society in ways that were unprecedented before that discovery. So discovery is everything. It’s a thrill to me. I’m addicted to it. I wake up every day going to the lab, because a student might have made a discovery or an observation that may lead to a great discovery. It’s still in me, and I love it. I would never give it up for anything.”

The French mathematician André Weil was imprisoned for failing to report for army duty in 1940. While in jail, he proved the Riemann hypothesis for curves over finite fields.
He wrote the following in a letter to his wife:
Today commemorates the death anniversary of one of the brilliant minds in history, astronomer, physicist and mathematician Leonhard Euler who died on this day, 18 September 1783 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire.

“Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.”
― Marie Skłodowska Curie

"It surprises me how disinterested we are today about things like physics, space, the universe and philosophy of our existence, our purpose, our final destination. Its a crazy world out there. Be curious."

The Feynman technique of learning:
1. Pick and study a topic.
2. Explain the topic to someone, like a child, who is unfamiliar with the topic.
3. Identify any gaps in your understanding.
4. Review and simplify!

L = Φ⁺[i∂ₜ - H]Φ + Φ⁺•Φ•Φ
Where;
Φ⁺ = |q|Φ (gauge fixing)
Φ⁺[i∂ₜ - H]Φ - Dirac propagator for a vibrating string
Φ⁺•Φ•Φ - String self-interacting term.
