Olodo Uprising for me was in 2015. When people saw Buhari and said he was the “Chosen One”. They argued against history and data. It was just not only about the increase of anti-intellectualism, it was its acceptance. We have not recovered, we may never recover.
In 1990, British-Nigerian footballer, Justin Fashanu, became the first male professional player to publicly come out as gay.
As reported by Prime People, he told The Sun that before coming out, he had had secret relationships with a senior British politician, television stars, and fellow footballers.
"I had a relationship with a Division One player. This guy was a top footballer in the north but, like me, he was trapped in a macho sport and seeking male company within it.
"The greatest thing about getting all this off my chest now is that I won't have to live the lie any longer. I can be honest and say, 'I'm gay.' Now does that make me a better or worse person?"
At the time, Fashanu had already played for Manchester City, Southampton, and Nottingham Forest, where he became the first Black footballer in Britain to command a £1 million transfer fee in 1981.
