@Tom_Gann Yes, exactly, there were strong structural reasons for that not to work - and the horizon of social democracy was a problem for both unions and politicians, to an extent including Benn. But there were also possibilities as well, which is why we rightly fetishise the Lucas plan

@AllyFogg I’m not even complaining that’s not my point. But the 70s is a nice period to remember and I can’t manage much beyond 1972/3 - but I’m very much aware we have to live in the present
