Army Vet ID'd as Gunman That Left 8 Kids Dead.
Authorities have identified 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, an Army veteran, as the man responsible for the murder of 8 children in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Police got calls about shots fired in the Cedar Grove neighborhood shortly after 6 a.m. central time. Officers found victims inside three separate homes along West 79th Street and a nearby address on Harrison Street. The eight children who died were between 1 and 14 years old. Two adult women were also shot in the head, and one of them remained in life-threatening condition, officials said.
According to multiple reports seven of the children were his and one was a relative. No names of the victims have been released yet.
Elkins fled the area after the shootings. Police chased him across the parish line into neighboring Bossier City, where officers shot and killed him during the confrontation. Because the incident crossed jurisdictions, the Louisiana State Police are now leading the investigation.
Hours before the shootings on Saturday, he shared a photo on social media of himself and his oldest daughter out on what he called a father-daughter date. About two weeks earlier, on April 5th, he posted a picture from Easter church with several of the children. On April 9th he wrote about dealing with mental-health challenges and asked for strength. His wife, Shaneiqua Elkins, had previously shared an old photo of him in his Army uniform from 2016.

I had two tickets to the Super Bowl. My dad was supposed to go with me. He passed away suddenly a week before the game. Everyone told me to sell the ticket. "It's worth $3,000!" I couldn't do it. I went to the stadium. I stood outside with a sign: "Free ticket. Must sit with me and tell me Dad jokes." People thought I was crazy. Then an older guy approached. He looked just like my dad. Flannel shirt. Kindly eyes. "I don't have a ticket," he said. "I just came to listen to the crowd.
My son used to love football. He died in a car wreck last year." I handed him the ticket. "You're sitting in seat 101," I said. We sat together. We ate hot dogs. We told bad jokes. We cried a little. For three hours, I had a dad, and he had a son. Best game of my life.
I saw a post that said: โOne thing about God, He lets the scene play out. He allows them to mock, lie, and gossip. Then He blesses you in a way that makes them choke on their own words. โVengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lordโ (Romans 12:19).โ Be still, and let God fight your battles.
