Wonderful news! The United States Senate passed H.R. 3377, authorizing President Trump to award the Medal of Honor to Major James Capers Jr. for his extraordinary acts of valor during the Vietnam W@r.
In 1967, while leading a Marine reconnaissance team near Phu Loc, Vietnam, Major Capers, despite severe wounds from enemy fire, repeatedly risked his life to direct his Marines and ensure their survival. James is 88 and doing well!
His courage saved lives and exemplifies the highest traditions of service. This long overdue recognition honors a true American hero from Bishopville, South Carolina.
We salute you, Major Capers. Semper Fi!

Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way. #Festivus#Seinfeld
@ThePatriotOasis@usmc_colonel In addition to the beard, it appears as if this soldier is not a regular participant of physical training. Perhaps a little too much time in the chow hall?
Today is Purple Heart Day — a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in defense of our nation.

In 1798, the modern United States #MarineCorps was formally established by law. Following the Revolutionary War, the Continental Marines were disbanded. However, recognizing the continued need for a dedicated naval infantry force, Congress passed, and President John Adams approved, "An Act for Establishing and Organizing a Marine Corps."
This act created a permanent Marine Corps under the Department of the Navy, solidifying its place as an integral part of the American military. This act defined the structure, organization, and duties of the newly reconstituted Marine Corps, laying the foundation for the esteemed institution that exists today.
While the Marine Corps proudly traces its lineage back to the Continental Marines - founded in Tun Tavern on November 10, 1775 - July 11, 1798, marks the date that this enduring and versatile fighting force was officially re-established to serve the young nation.
