🪖 From Pacifist Farm Boy to One-Man Army: Alvin York
Born in 1887 in the hills of Tennessee, Alvin York was a poor farmer, expert marksman, and devout Christian pacifist. Drafted into WWI, he struggled with his faith but chose to serve.
On October 8, 1918, during the brutal Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Corporal York and a small patrol slipped behind German lines near Hill 223. Ambushed and pinned down, with half his men dead, York took charge.
What followed was legendary:
• He picked off German machine gunners one by one with deadly rifle fire.
• When six enemies charged with bayonets, he dropped them all with his pistol — shooting the last man first so the rest wouldn’t scatter.
• He forced the surrender of 132 German soldiers (including officers) and marched them back to American lines.
York single-handedly silenced dozens of machine guns and helped break the German defense. Promoted to Sergeant on the spot, he received the Medal of Honor and became America’s most decorated soldier of WWI.
Humble to the end, he credited God and his men. After the war, he returned home and used his fame to build schools for rural kids.
A reluctant hero who rose when it mattered most. 🇺🇸

But here’s what I’ve learned over decades of studying Scripture—when the Bible is silent on a subject, it usually signals that it isn’t particularly relevant to our relationship with God or our salvation. And that itself is telling...
