An F18 jet fighter worth more than US$60 million fell off a US aircraft carrier a few hours ago.

It was being towed when crew lost control and the jet and tow truck fell off the vessel, sinking quickly out of sight.

Crew on the plane and the tow truck managed to leap to safety before the vehicles went over the side, according to initial reports, including a press release by the U.S. Navy.

However, later reports blamed the Houthi rebels, a Yemeni group disrupting Israeli and western vessels as a protest against the slaughter of innocents in Gaza.

The new version said the aircraft carrier had to turn sharply to avoid an incoming attack, causing the accident.

But some commentators doubted this, saying that aircraft carriers are extremely large vessels which cannot turn sharply.
