You were built to squat. The toilet was built for somebody else.

There is a muscle that loops around the end of your bowel, like a sling.

When you are standing or sitting, it pulls tight and puts a kink in the pipe. That is deliberate. That kink is what stops you from having an accident every time you stand up.

When you squat, that sling releases, and the kink straightens out.

A modern toilet holds you at the exact angle where the kink is still there.

So, you push. And you strain. And you sit there for fifteen minutes, wondering what is wrong with you.

Nothing is wrong with you. You are pushing against a bend that you created by sitting down.

The instruction is one thing, and it costs nothing.

Put a small stool under your feet, with your knees higher than your hips. That is the whole adjustment.

It works the first night. You do not have to wait three weeks to find out.
