Welcome to the World of Toho.
On this quest we will be covering the Toho/Godzilla franchise. From the depths of Half Human to Singular Point you will have a wider view on the history of one of the most popular tokusatsu franchises in the world.
The Showa Kamen Riders are interventions by the God of good (Buddha, Trinity, you choose).
Of course, Takeshi Hongo self declares himself as a champion of justice sent by Mother Nature herself. If you combine the aspects of Ambassador Hell & Dr. Shinigami’s backstories from Toru Hirayama then you see the Great Leader use an alias known as “Chen Mao.” When confronting Shinigami & Gamon (Ambassador Darkness) he describes himself as a thought. With Kamen Rider Amazon & the Demon World of Stronger it’s implied that the Great Leader has been active for thousands of years. The Great Leader is what you would assume to be Satan, Belial, Baal, etc. with the implication of him being a foreign entity attempting to take form in our physical universe. If you are familiar with the story from Genesis in the Bible we are met with the Tower of Babel. Where they build a tower or gate (as Babel means Gate to God) to show superiority over their creator (Think of Shocker being a power built to display dominance). God destroys the tower and splits all the nations & languages giving them to “false gods” or otherwise better known as “demons.” While God only takes one group of people, a challenge giving Satan 99 nations while only giving himself 1. This “1” is Kamen Rider. It’s a popular trope within the book of taking characters who are by definition evil but using them for good. Kamen Rider being a cyborg created by Shocker now destined to fight thousands of Kaijin on his own ties very similarly to this allegory. The Great Leader as seen whenever the Riders finally reach him toys with the implications of his origin, saying he’s a god of death or his birthplace is of the stars. It’s a sinister thought yet, despite everything with each new organization he forms a rebel of pure righteousness to stand against him is born. Why would such an intelligent deity fail? Well, because it’s nature’s divine intervention.
THE EARLIEST KNOWN GODZILLA FAN FILM
The Fire Monsters (1959) by Don Glut. Filmed in Chicago and Harrisburg. Influenced by "Gigantis."
Godzilla and Anguirus emerge from the waters of Chicago. At the end Godzilla climbs the tallest building in the city (Prudential) and falls.
More like The Curse of Tsuburaya, Anno absolutely loves Mirrorman & Mighty Jack equally as much. Without Tsuburaya Productions there is no Evangelion.
The long style suit we have seen in the trailer for “Human Vapor” seems like a mix of trench coat-look from the original storyboards/concept art & the 1960 suit. Excited to see more!
@M3S0soic I see your point but that’s just a personal preference of adding it to the series. It really doesn’t matter as both are still included in the larger SFX series.
