I recently attended a workshop with World Bank, Windhoek Municipality, NHE, facilitated by the World Bank.

In January, I attended one with the most populous Local Authorities (Windhoek, Rundu, Walvis, Oshakati, Swakopmund), facilitated by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban, Rural Development and Land Reform.

What I can tell you is that, we're way behind as a country, colleagues. Even though the subject was similar, the approach of World Bank was something out of this world, and it took 11 hours. The Parliamentary one took 45 hours (Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00).

While our local one was more of a contest of egos, ranks and long presentations, with World Bank, they just wanted to know who is present in terms of the space of the Built-Up Environment, particularly Housing Delivery. There was no Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, or Word Document) displayed.

What stood out the most was how they embrace AI. I've never seen a workshop conducted efficiently and inclusively: Chat GPT, Mentimeter, etc. I could not believe what I was seeing.

Here, we're scared of Chat GPT, barring it everywhere. "No Chat GPT".

Colleagues, computers are garbage in, garbage out, unless we're saying we are not intelligent enough to assess the difference in quality of AI outputs produced to the command of different people.

AI does not do better than what you asked for. It's better we let people use AI freely, and rather, we enhance our intelligence to assess who uses it better. AI is here to stay. The earlier we welcome it, the better.

Unfortunately, I see us in the future shocked how children from other countries are running AI - same way we were beaten for swimming and now we can't even save a child drowning in a pool. We have to call the Police.

As for me, I cannot spend 10 hours doing something I can do in 1 hour with Chat GPT. Calculators were once rejected as it was believed they make people stupid. Today, we are using digital ones.
