Well, that must be a first.
Makushita 24 Tanji was supposed to have a bout against Chiyotora yesterday, but lost due to not showing up because he overslept after eating a hearty meal.
His Oyakata, Arashio, was commentating on that day and was baffled.

As the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament (Aki Basho) approaches, top rikishi are putting in their final efforts during keiko (training). The following reports detail the rigorous pre-tournament practices, including a key training session involving Wakatakakage, running for Ozeki, and the new komusubi, Aonishiki, along with other notable wrestlers.

Sekiwake Wakatakakage, who aims for promotion to Ozeki, had his first away practice before the tournament, aside from the Tokitsukaze Ichimon’s joint training. He visited the Ajigawa stable on the 10th and fought 11 bouts against new komusubi Aonishiki and others, finishing with 7 wins and 4 losses. Using his signature ottsuke (arm thrust) and skillful dashinage, he beat Aonishiki 5-3. “Just as usual,” he said calmly.
After the away practice, he returned to the Arashio stable, where he received a new ceremonial apron. It features 15 stars, symbolizing his wish for a 15-0 record, and has the same design as his older brother, Wakamotoharu.

New komusubi Aonishiki had an away practice at the Ajigawa stable, fighting 14 bouts against Sekiwake Wakatakakage and Makuuchi Gonoyama. He was satisfied with his 8-6 record, which included a forceful push-out of Wakatakakage using a nodowa to the neck. "Since they came, I focused and did my best. I'm glad I got more bouts in than I expected," he said.

M3 Gonoyama visited the Ajigawa stable and fought 9 bouts against new komusubi Aonishiki and Sekiwake Wakatakakage, who was also there for away practice. He put pressure on both with fierce starts reminiscent of an official tournament. "It was good to practice with san'yaku wrestlers. You can't get close to the upper ranks without beating them," he said, full of spirit.

To prepare for the Autumn Tournament, Oshoma had an away practice at the Tatsunami stable. He fought Yokozuna Hoshoryu in 8 consecutive bouts. Instead of his signature pushing, he chose to receive his opponent and grapple from a clinch, securing 5 wins. "I came to the Tatsunami stable because I wanted to face a strong opponent before the tournament. I was focused on engaging, grabbing the maemitsu (front part of the mawashi), and moving forward," he explained.
This was his third consecutive day of away practice, having visited the Isegahama stable on the 8th and 9th. A new source of motivation for him is seeing his fellow Mongolian, Asahakuryu of the Takasago stable, who came to Japan with Hoshoryu, become a new Juryo wrestler. "I'm so happy that the three of us who came here together are now sekitori," he said.
