Twitter is the place where everyone assumes you're uneducated if you don't put your credentials in your bio. That's cute.
I don't see any need for a credentialed bio. My words speak to my intelligence, skills, and training.
None of what you said disproves anything I’ve stated, nor does it support “African American”—aside from its later reintroduction by Jesse Jackson in 1988.
To your point: yes, the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) was organized in 1816 in Philadelphia, just as the American Colonization Society (ACS) was founded in 1816 in Washington, D.C.
Malcolm X did not commonly use “African American.” He typically referred to us as “Negro,” later increasingly as “Black,” and occasionally as “Afro-American” or “American Negro”.
While “African American” appeared as early as the late 18th century in Philadelphia, its usage was largely confined to that city. That’s regional terminology. It is no different from terms like Creole, Colored, Negro, or Black. During that period, our ancestors generally referred to themselves as “Colored” or “Negro.”
One more point that’s often ignored: “Africa” itself is a European-derived term that originally referred to a region in North Africa and was later expanded to describe the entire continent. So invoking “Africa” as a fixed historical identity isn’t any more grounded than terms like Negro, Black, Colored, or Mulatto—all of which were introduced, shaped, and formalized within European frameworks.
That little jab at the end—cute.
Folks coming from countries that don't even identify as "Black" via their governments trying to dictate what "Black" is in America will always be wildly audacious to be...
Annoying little try hards...
I don't call myself FBA, ADOS, Freedmen, or any of those specificity terms (Black American is enough—I remember we've always been the only group to use it until recently).
But they've been lying so much, they've got me speaking up for FBA and ADOS lately. I really wish they would stop.
They really need to stop it.
White woman tells the Hispanic community that just because they have proximity to whiteness doesn’t mean whites will protect them, and she also says they will never like the Hispanic community, but will use them, abuse them, and then toss them to the side.
Sometimes I randomly think “I can’t believe we got labeled African American and no one else had to put African in front of their nationality” 😭😭😭 like it was right in front of our faces 🥴.
Houston Police Officer Ashley Gonzalez caught on video repeatedly dropping the N-word, calling Black people “chimps” and declaring “I hate n*ggers” while bragging she used it on a Black suspect during an arrest then saying it left her “feeling at peace.”
Houston PD is investigating the social media rant. Department has not publicly confirmed it’s her but pulled her badge anyway.
