Eddie Van Halen and Billy Gibbons met when they were both living nearby in Los Angeles, in the years following Van Halenโs debut in 1978.
Gibbons, already an established star with ZZ Top, had been blown away the first time he saw Eddie play live, immediately recognizing the revolutionary nature of his guitar technique.
What truly brought the two guitarists together, beyond music, was something much simpler. Their shared passion for Mexican food. From that everyday affinity, a genuine friendship was born that lasted for decades, fueled also by the mutual respect between two of the most innovative styles in the history of the electric guitar.
Backstage photos like this one, showing the two sharing laughter and jokes away from the stage, capture precisely that genuine closeness between two rock legends.
