We're sometimes accused by @yourcolchester councillors of not covering its meetings anymore. While we certainly don't have the capacity we once did, we try to keep up where we can! Here's some examples from the past week.
Lavender House, in Stanway, which offers short breaks to children with learning difficulties, is set to be closed by Essex County Council. This follows a ten year campaign to save the facility, led by families who call it their "lifeline". @TheGazette ⬇️

A real privilege to interview the British Army's first transgender soldier, Abigail Austen, who was raised in Aberdeenshire and served in the paras in Colchester. A tale of someone who truly stands for what she believes in:

“What do we want? Fair pay! When do we want it? Now!”
Striking junior doctors have formed a picket line outside Colchester Hospital this morning.
They are campaigning for more pay and to highlight how the pressures of the job are forcing staff out of the profession.
This by no means covers all off the issues and policy debated by Colchester Council's committees this week, but we'll always cover meetings when we can - crucially at @TheGazette we're always ready to listen if there's a story you feel we should cover/we've missed! Get in touch!
Finally something a bit different - Colchester's aldermen are unhappy about planned changes to rules over the criteria for bestowing the ancient honorary title. The full council is now set to vote on the proposals. 👇

A panel of the Teacher Regulation Agency had trouble believing much of her evidence.
She said she completed her PhD at Cavendish College, but the panel put to her this college had not existed since 1892 and had no current internet presence.
