Shocking new directive: Today, the Taliban's Minister of Vice and Virtue announced a ban on adult women's voices in each other's presence. In August, the Taliban banned women's voices in public, deeming it provocative. Women protested to this ban by singing and poetry.
In 1971, after the Justice Dept enjoined The NY Times from publishing the Pentagon Papers, my father gave them to the @washingtonpost. It was ultimately the call of Katherine Graham, publisher/owner. She was warned that her paper’s survival was on the line. She didn’t blink.
A reminder:
It was Jared Kushner and the Trump administration who gave @washingtonpost writer Jamal Khashoggi to the Saudis, dismembered with a bone saw and liquefied in sulfuric acid.
But in a contest between Harris and Trump, Jeff Bezos can't make an endorsement.
Bloomberg News analyzed more than 53,000 posts sent from Musk’s Twitter account between 2011 and 2024 to determine which topics he prioritized -- and which received the most engagement. Anti-immigration and voter fraud conspiracies top the list. https://t.co/sPjuCzxgQD
@TJune576 If Harris rolls out fake electors or phones states' secretaries general after the election to find a few more votes, I'll definitely consider that option.
A great milestone but an even more staggering record. If a bowler's job is to remove batters as soon as possible, right now KG is the greatest bowler ever to have played the game at the highest level.
SCOOP: I reviewed three sets of internal email exchanges between senior Biden administration officials who were warned just DAYS after Oct. 7 that Israel was risking committing war crimes by ordering more than a million Palestinians in northern Gaza to evacuate. There’s more: 1/X
The Biggest Disappointment polls are still running, but three parties have pulled away from the rest, which means it’s time to vote.
So....
Which of these three parties (listed alphabetically) has been the greatest disappointment in SA politics since the May 29 election?
There were more than 405,000 visits to https://t.co/jmwWvhf1g2 through the link Taylor Swift shared on Instagram after her endorsement of Kamala Harris, far more than the site’s daily average of 30,000 in early September. https://t.co/BQCy2WHo91
I met Pravin Gordhan for the first time in early 2014 when he visited our (Business Day) newsroom with @Dlaziphi , I think. Over the years our relationship grew into a combination of agreements and disputes, but always respectfully so. There were two things I admired about PG: He was not a coward, and I never had someone (credibly) say he stole public money.
On another day I will write at length about how much he fought state capture, and pushed and cajoled many of us to do the same. This took a great toll on him and his family (the BD staff witnessed some of this), but the trait of his (stubbornness) that often irritated me showed itself to be a strength.
He could be annoying. No, infuriating! On more than one occasion he would start off being nice but when he sees that you won't agree with him, get very pushy in a bullying kind of way. I'd tell him NO easily as I didn't work for him! He would storm off but next time he would be friendly and respectful once more. And so it would go.
He was not perfect. None of us are, but his patriotism was beyond question. For that, I will always be grateful for his life. May his soul rest in peace.
